I know there are quite a few reefers in the Sarnia area and now that more of us are here at AP I thought I'd ask. Where does everyone get their corals from?

I've been told that Lotus02 have closed up shop but I don't know if that's true, although they haven't updated their site for some time so perhaps it is.

There is Lisa over at PetZone but I wouldn't buy any livestock from her. I guess it doesn't help that I know who her wholesaler is so that may play a part. The inexperienced staff and very high markup is the other reason why I'll pass on her store.

Fins feathers and furs is also in Sarnia but the coral selection isn't very good. Rob seems like he cares about his stock and is planning on expanding to the store next to him very soon (already has control of the space just setting up) so there is some real promise there.

Other than that where else do you shop? I wonder if there is a great small store that is kinda hidden or perhaps a hobbiest that sells in volume that is worth a stop by. If you've got anywhere please post it, my downtime thanks you.

I heard the same thing about lotus, but it was through the grapevine so I can't say for sure.

I was in fins, feathers, and furs this week and picked up a few things, but the owner didn't strike me as the most knowledgable.

I deal alot with Derek who owns Bluewater Aquatics. He runs it out of him home in Sarnia. He doesn't have a stockroom, though he keeps some things on hand, but mainly you tell him what you are looking for and he will bring it in for a reasonable price. I have gotten some beautiful fish, awesome fiji live rock and most of my dry goods from him.

If anyone knows of any other sources... lets hear about it!

I know of Tom from Bluewater Salt, also a home business. He always has an ad in the Sarnia classifieds for corals. Never dealt with him but if memory serves me right he's on the outskirts of Sarnia.

Is Derek the one that used to work with Steve Gray out of Steve's Ocean? I know I've heard of that place before, really should check it out.

I've had a couple people say they thought that Derek worked with steve, but I never actually asked him. PM me if anyone wants his contact info.

I just heard about a store I didn't know existed in Port Huron. It is called Aquatic Solutions. It's located in Fort Gratiot and is apparently not too far away from Birchwood Mall. I plan on checking it out on Friday.

Here is the info:

This is too funny... I got the same info on this place last night! I'm headed to Port Huron on Friday as well for some cross-boarder shopping with my cousin. I didn't know this place was there last year when I went, but it isn't far from the WalMart if memory serves me correct.

Maybe I'll run into you!

Ah, when I checked the info and address I had, it turns out we are talking about two different places! This is the one I was thinking of, near the local WalMart in Marysville, MI.

Aquatic Technologies
1156 Gratiot Blvd
Marysville, MI
810 364-4212

I found out about this one last year, but have never been there. With any luck I'll be able to make two stops tomorrow.

After reading your post I thought I would try it tomorrow too, but I tried the phone number and a recording told me that it was changed to an unlisted number. Thats kind or weird isn't it? What kind of business would want to be unlisted?

I went over to Aquatic Solutions yesterday. I don't like bashing places but I will say that you should not buy liverock here as every salt tank was overrun with aiptasia. The fish selection was small, but they may have been due for a shipment. Prices varied, some deals, other fish way overpriced.

I wouldn't make a trip over there just for this store, but I may stop in if I am in the neighborhood.

So I have decided to contact some breeders and wholesalers in the states. And I will be bringing some fish in myself. I will start with clownfish, and go from there.
