You can try food grade elastic bands.

cover it in netting

both will work...when u do the elastics...make sure its tight enuf but not too much as to constrict the leather(leather expands as u know..so this is a bit harder-jm2c)
and with netting..heres from coralscaping

If you have a Dollarama in Alliston or Barrie,I just use the dollar store glue.
There is four tubes for a buck and I don't skimp out on it.
Works great especially with leathers.

Steve: The thick gel super glue at dollorama is much better than the 4 little tubes. You get one larger tube of it for $1. It is fantastic. The little tubes glue is too runny for my taste, though I use it when I can not get the thick gel version.

Does it dry as fast?
Thanks for the heads up.

Uh. I think so. I generally apply some and then stick it in the water to cure it. The fact that it is thicker just makes it way easier to work with. The normal stuff seems to run off when applied, while the gel stays where you put it.

Using the glue will probably always cause trouble. You can either put the leather on the rock/plug in a nearly no flow area and let it attach naturally or..you can put the leather and rock/plug in a smaller container inside your tank to block the flow and let it attach in there. You can tie it on, but I have seen leathers that don't heal from the properly and end up with "wound holes" on their stocks.

If you leave it out of the water for 2-3 minutes it should be enough to cure and short enough to cause no harm to the coral.

I remember trying a gel.It didn't set hard enough and it separated and floated to the top. That kind of why I like the thinner glue.

Needle and thread.
Just don't put it too tight, or it will rip through leaving you two very small pieces.
Bridal veil works too. If you look around, you can find it in precut circles which is handy.
