I am finding it hard to get info on fighting conch's or even a picture! Does anyone know of a good site for me to hit or can you tell me who carries them , either ORG or J&L ? Any info is greatly appreciated !

ORG has them usually. I haven't ever seen them @ J&L.

Here is a photo of a Florida Aquacultured Fighting Conch:

Keep in mind there are two popular conch's, a Florida fighting conch (Strombus alatus) and a Queen conch (Strombus gigas). The difference between them is hard to find documented anywhere. I believe one has mini spikes around the bottom coil, the other is all smooth.

Definitely make SURE that you're getting Fighting Conches NOT Queen Conches. Queen Conches get HUGE and aren't what you are looking for!

Just how many could you put in a 77 gal. and if you could ballpark what would I be looking at price wise . Should have seen the look on the lfs staffer when I asked about them , you'ld be still laughing ! I swear , I sometimes think it would be better moving to a bigger metro area just to enjoy the freedom of a better economy and variety BUT then I'd miss out on my second hobby ( hitting the trail on wheels and ski's )

For a 77 I would put in 1-2...

They usually sell for 15-25 bux each.. I guess it would depend how big they are.. The ones I have seen are 1-2"

The rule for these guys is ONE conch per 1 square foot of OPEN sand space.

Prices range a little, but Reef Mike is about right.

1-2" is the average size for them...and they don't get much bigger then the 2".

Make sure that you have OPEN space of the sand...as they don't climb the glass or rock...and only stay on the sand. If they can't get around...they will starve.
