Fish: Scooter Blenny, Powder Blue Tang, Midas Blenny, Splendid Dottyback, 2 true percs mated pair, 3 bloodshrimp, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 cleaner wrasse, 1 coral banded shrimp, 5 small hermits
or so....3 large turbo snails from Big Al's on Dundas(these things are awesome!), 1 ultra Crocea clam, 1 regular Crocea clam,
1 sandsifting starfish that occassionally climbs glass....
Corals so far: Jasmin (FOX), bubble, green star polyps, flourescent green zoos, pumping xenia x 3, 1 blue tiped staghorn,
1 pink montipora, more button polyps,
Liverock : mostly figi porous stuff.....some other stuff that
ORG brought in that is nice forget the name, I recently added
50lbs more 2 days ago that is in this shot that is why some
pieces have white on them...my calcium level has not had
a chance to work on them yet and turn em purple hahahaha
but actually the plate ledge rock has a gorgeous lime green
coraline that I love on it but that I do not think will last....but
who knows....
Filtration: MAG 12 for circulation with single return and single
drilled overflow, MAG 18 for the skimmer which is a Model 624
Aerofoamer 24" model which I truly love. I also use floss in
my sump which I change every single Sunday.
The stand: It is a Oceanic Woodgrain Stand which I painted
black using Tremclad Paint...it also has 3 coats of I forget what I used type of varnish to seal it nicely and waterproof it well...
Works good...salt stains just wipe off easy...love it! That was
John in Stayner's suggestion! thanks John!
Notice the front glass is no longer blue?? Yes that is right...
it was not long ago this puppy had a BLUE PAINTED FRONT!!!!
HAHAOHOHOH roflmao!!! Fixed that quick after a few choice words! I was so mad at myself! hehehe
Anyways...I love this tank..hope you enjoy the pic!
Thanks for helping me post it Mitch!

Happy Thanksgiving to all:
Your tank is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!! I can't wait until mine gets under way. It is taking forever just to get this tank right!! But slow is good and I am being patient. Well trying to, until I see a wonderful tank like this then I just can't wait. Good Job.

Hard to beleave its only been a short time since you started "THE TANK" but it appears to be paying off.

Could it be "THE SKIMMER"

I know that SLOW is the way to GO...but I am very bad on
taking that advice...I am so darn impatient....Once it is up
and running I can slow down...and now is the time that I
can pick corals slowly etc.....the tank is almost completed...
Now it is just a matter of maintenance and boosting calcium
levels etc....lighting will be upgraded next I am thinking....
I do not like the 6500K bulbs but I had to use them up as
they came with the fixture...so....now is the time to change
to probably a 10K Ushio but I am not 100% sure on that
bulb over the AB for example or the CORALVUe WHICH I
am being told smokes both of those...so it is a confusing
subject lighting is....
thanks again!
Good luck with your tank...what size are you setting up?
Tim
No Jim..that is not a skimmer behind the tree
it is (scroll down)
A KICK ASS SKIMMER!!! HEHEHEHEHEHEHE
that is my AEROFOAMER MODEL 624..AND IT ROCKS!!
I hid it for my wife's sake...if this was a batch pad there would
be NO TREE!! HEHEHE
Hi Kadir..do you have a tank now? What size is it?
I used to have a 50 gallon reef that I had alottttt
of fun with and was easy to maintain etc...
I also have a 10 gallon reef now as well...
Size ...well...they say GO BIG or GO HOME it just
aint true....Big is GREAT, Medium is GREAT, Small is GREAT
Just depends on WHERE IT IS GOING, HOW MUCH TIME
YOU HAVE, $ you have, and WHAT the individual wants. ;)
Thanks for your nice comment! :)
What size do you have now?
Tim

In my opinion here is 1/2 the battle on having a healthy tank.
I am not an expert...but it just so happens that 99% of the
gorgeous tanks I have seen over the years have an excellent
skimmer on them...When I see the gunk this thing pulls out of
tank I realize..mmmmmm sure would not want to leave that
stuff IN the tank... oNLY MY OPINION...and they do vary...

Our tank will be 60"L x 24"W x 30"H = 187 gl.
I'm taking it slow because through experiences in the past (with other things) I don't want to make too many mistakes with this. As AJ says, we can make it right the first time. So lots of patients for me. I will just keep watching what all you experts do and I will just follow. LOL

Tim,
Looking good! About time by the way!
you know for like $40 bucks you could make a nice little black cabinet to hide that skimmer :)
Sohal Tang
October 13th, 2003, 11:27 PM
Whyyyy would I wanna hide the skimmer? hahaohaoh ROFLMAO!
Just kidding....
Ya...I know...I think when time comes I am gonna spend a
little more then $40 and get a cabinet made the looks like
furniture quality orrrr do you think it can be done for $40
and look as good as say Oceanic Stands quality for example?
thanks Mike,
Tim

to tell you the truth Mike..I thought I would leave the skimmer
behind the tree for a while and then when the novelty wears
off I would have a cabinet made for it...butttt the NOVELTY HAS NOT WORN OFFhahahah I love looking at the thing to tell ya
the truth hehehe
But...sooner or later I will enclose it....
NOT now though...too soon hehehe

Hi Tim,
For now I only have a 5 gallon nano but i am planning to set up a 55G and i am looking for used tank, equipment, live rock at reasonable price. You know when you buy them from a fish store the cost hurts.
Good luck with your beautiful 90G

The TV is a SONY GRAND VEGA HD WIDESCREEN 50"
It is LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY meaning that there is a bulb
in the back that after 8,000 hours approx you CHANGE
and you have a NEW T.V. again basically....
The picture loss is ZERO.
as opposed to a PROJECTION t v. that lasts about 10 years
this tv will last about 20 years and have zero picture loss
in the meantime..
THE PICTURE IS INCREDIBLE and SMOKES PROJECTION T.V.
The only thing comparable is PLASMA and you need to take
out a MORTGAGE for one of them :)

wow, I am doing my rec room right now. I have been looking at the Wega either 32 or 36" but a nice 50 would be wild. Is it high definition ready? It is wide screen right? so how much? email me stephen.dunn@rogers.com if you like. Looks like I am having John at NAFB build my tank. Can you answer some questions about the electrical?, my contractor wants a plan. What about the stereo I see.? thanks

Well Kadaytar..I bought approx 1/2 my rock at FISH STORES.
I mean if you do not LIKE the rock then ANY PRICE is too much.
I shop and am picky on the rock....I bought a fair amount
from ORG, SUDBURY, some from Aaron at Scenic, and the other
50% approx was bought privately and got darn good deal!
I know a guy selling about 20lbs right now..he is in Stayner..
it is about 1/2 hour drive from Barrie....
Do you want his email?
Good luck with your reef....go slow...you will enjoy it more.

Man o man!
Buy Rechargables! :)
Sohal Tang
October 16th, 2003, 11:18 PM
Ya I hear there is a good spot in Barrie called
the BATTERY MAN or something..apparently excellent
prices and quality and that is all he carries is batteries
etc...have you heard of it?
That is where I will pick up some rechargeables but my
budget is already blown so I must wait for a while to
get them.>I am going to buy a WACK of them....

Yes as I live near Tim I can say he has done a great job in a short time, maybe not as patient as some but the tank certainly looks better in person, his new car is a testiment of that, lots of K`s put on it in search of tank inhabitants, right Tim.
I will have to get over to see the new additions sometime & that big @ss TV , what is that a marijuana tree beside the tank under those MH`s may have to notify the authorities ! :D
Michael_Lambert
October 20th, 2003, 02:59 PM
Tim just wondering why that skimmer would not fit under the tank there? or atleast why a refugium or sump would not fit ?
Sohal Tang
October 20th, 2003, 08:34 PM
thanks John..PATIENCE??? whats that? ohhh we need that
for this hobby???? shhhhHHHH don't tell my wife that hehehe
Well...If you knew you would understand.....I waited a long
time for this tank...so...it was like opening the STARTING GATE
when I decided to set up another reef....I am not sorry....everything went swell so far...other then the p blue
getting ick and we beat that with the wrasse hehe....
So...just trying to watch the levels now and go SLOW on choosing
corals...wondering ifffff i SHOULD or SHOULD NOT upgrade
lighting...it is darn expensive and ....I dont know..I am not sure
I need it at this point.. I mayyy go heavy into sps but not at
least for a YEAR I think?? SO... no rush..
Mike, believe me...that skimmer will NOT fit under that stand due to sump being under there...and if you managed to get it IN,,,,which I did...you will have one hellll of a time getting it out...
I NOTCHED MY SUMP getting it back out....hint of how tight spot.
The skimmer is bigger then it looks and the underneath
of the stand is smaller then it looks...
I like the skimmer where it is...seriously....not kidding...I will
enclose it into a cabinet no problem...I can see the operation
of it at a glance etc...the tree hides it better then ya think hehe.
Of course if you are a reefer and LOOKING FOR IT...you are
GONNA FIND IT hehehe
Another Mike came over to my place yesterday and noticed
that my drilled overflow was NOT skimming the total surface...
I quickly made a hacksaw adjustment and VOILA...
So...thanks for the eye there MIKEY OLE BOY!!! See you
soon hope you liked the tank.
Ask Mike if the TV looks good guys hehehehe
I showed Mike a little bit of the underwater DVD I have..
pretty darn neat stuff.....
Tim
