About 6 weeks ago I put my Banggai adults in my frag tank. Saturday nite I found 2 fry in the sump. They didn't go into the equipment section this time just into my bin of about 100lbs. of LR and have survived there for about 5 weeks. I dug out all the rock and the fry yesterday.

Hey quick question for ya. I have a pair of Banggai as well. Recently ive been a little worried about one (the one i have identified as a male, the other beeeing female) he has stopped eating in the last 3 weeks.

I mean he goes for the food just doesn't end up eating it... it also looks as if his cheeks are all puffed out kinda liek a squirrel with nuts in his mouth...

Did u notice a difference with the apearance of your male? and how long did he keep the fry in his mouth before releasing them? I think mine possibly has a moth full of babies.. well i hope anyhow

He sounds like he is holding. The eggs stay for 8 days and then hatch, he holds the fry for two more weeks. When you see him eat start looking for fry.

Thanks Donna! I was really quite surprised to find fry in the frag tank system as that has only been going for about 3 months. They seem to have done well in the rock pile. I am sure there were lots of pods for them. I fed flake to them this morning and the newcomers weren't quite sure what to do but it didn't take long before they were eating it.

My eggs hatch in about 3.5 weeks, then the male would hold the babies for 2 days then release them. Same schedule for the past 6times.
Thanks,
Ray

Right on so mine guy just might be holding... but wondering do they hold the eggs in their mouth or just the fry?

They hold an egg ball first and continue to hold after they hatch. I have heard of some males releasing then after only a couple of weeks and the fry still having a yolk sac.

You could take your male and put him in a seperate tank inside a cage made from egg crate. Then after lights out one night he shouls release the fry and you should be able to capture them or just remove the male. Don't use a net to capture the fry though. A small container or plastic bag works much better.
