Hi Guys,

I have a 5G nano, tank is 5 gallon marinland eclips system. I have some zoos and soft corals in it. Does anybody have a reccomendation for lightening this little guy? I want at least 20 watts but I could not find here in Barrie. If somebody give me some advice about the bulbs and fixture can fit into this tank i will be very happy.

Thanks

I don't have alot of info on this, but maybe this will spark someone's memory. I was in the Menagerie Pet Shop in Toronto a few months back and saw some type of small power compact bulbs. They were a bit pinkish in colour. I think that they had one in their small Nano tank at the front of the store. Maybe someone else knows more about these bulbs??

I've got 7G Nano retrofited with CSL 32w Smartlite Retro. This smartlite lamp has both 10,000k and Ultra-Actinic.

There are a lot of softies in the tank and they grow fast.

It was really easy to retrofit. Here is the link, where I bought it -

Thanks pbutkovich and player,

Player did you order it directly from that site? Can you remember the total cost? Price+shipment. Price for the kit is $54 US, what about the shipment?

Thanks

I ordred from that site together with refugium. The shipment was +$30, but if you just buy a kit it was something like $15.
They ship with UPS Ground and I was ripped off by Canadian customs (they charged my GST, PST + brokerage fee, something like $70 in total.
I suggest you to order this kit from http://www.fishsupply.com/cgi-bin/f2/common/store.cgi?dbname=f2&mode=item&path=top/S/SL/SLAZZ/SLECL-23128
I ordered some other things from fishsupply and I didn't pay any taxes or custom fees. (They ship with Purolator)

Thanks Mitchell,

I saw that bulb its only 10 W. I have to buy at least 2 of them. Its price is around $18. With the fixtures and reflector its gonna cost me around $60 or more and i am going to have only 20W. Probably they will produce too much heat for a 5 gallon tank.
I don't know I am confused.

Player did you see these mini ones sold by aquariumpros.com?

http://aquariumpros.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=LFpr

I saw it last night. May '27W 7100 K' or '27W 6700 Kx 9W 7100K' be good? First one is $60 second one is $75. I think 27W is good enough for 5 gallon. It provides 5.4W/gallon. Also cost of shippment won't be that much( I hope so) and i don't have to be ripped off by canadian customs. What do you think do you still suggest 32W smartlite retrofit?

Thanks again for your advices guys

They don't have dimensions for these one, you better make sure they fit your eclipse hood.
I would go with CSL 32w Smartlite, they are 10000K and they design specifically for Eclipse hoods. They had step by step instructions on how to retrofit Eclipse hoods. You can try to find somewhere locally, but with today exchange rate it will be still cheaper to order it from fishsupply.com. They are fast too, last time it took only 3 days for delivery from States.

Just make sure they will ship it with Purolator and not UPS Ground.
