Idntification Help

First off, I do not have pictures so if this will drive you nuts stop reading now. Those of you that are still with me, thanks for sticking it out. I will post pictures ASAP. What I have is a piece of Fiji LR with a growth on it that looks like a fuzzy snowball. It looks a LOT like the "snowball" snack cakes you get at the gas station. It is about the size of an eraser. Have done some looking but can not figure out what this thing is. Sound familiar to anyone?

Could be some form of Sponge .. maybe .. just a wild guess for now ... :D !!

Have a look at 'pineapple sponge' and see if that's close.
