Anyone crapping in someone else's thread will be issued Warning Points. Once enough points are accumulated, you will be temp banned for no less than 24hrs or perma-banned if it's that serious.

Anyone excessively bumping a thread, same deal.

If you're unsure of something, ask your closest available moderator.

crapping - ANY posts within a thread that have nothing to do with the INITIAL POSTERS THREAD. Way too many threads have steered way off course due to arguments, etc. lately - and it has to STOP. When someone posts about a specific question - they want the ANSWER to that question only. Basically - if you can't ASSIST the post in a positive way - DON'T POST!!

This also applies to posts in the "For Sale" forums. No thread crapping. Ex.: Do not go to a seller's thread and say that the items price is too high. The price is up to the seller, and should a buyer be willing to pay the suggested figure - that is their business. If the buyer is educated - they will research the items VALUE and pay accordingly.

Thread crapping will not be tolerated and offenders may or may not be banned from "Buy, Sell, and Trade" forums ~ at the decision of the Moderators/Admins.

Do not offer low insulting prices (this goes for the buyer). It is consider thread crapping and rude.

No links to any other sales, services, auctions, and groupbuys are to be made by other posters (not the thread author). Ex: You find a for sale thread where someone is selling a 100Gal tank for $300.00. You were browsing ebay and found someone selling a 100Gal tank there for $250.00. DO NOT POST THIS LINK IN THE ORIGINAL FOR SALE POST. If you would like to be a "nice guy/gal" and let other members know about the ebay tank - create a NEW thread about it.

bumping - Same holds true for bumping a thread. ONE bump per 24hours is permitted ~ no more.

Violations of these rules WILL result in Warning System Points being issued to the offender(s). Note - once you receive 25 points - you are AUTOMATICALLY banned from the forums!! The duration of this automated ban will be at the decression of the AquariumPros.ca Moderators and Administrators.

Thank you all for your understanding.

What is "bumping"?

bumping is when someone trys to keep their thread at or near the top so that more people are likely to see it. They do this by posting a new message to their thread saying something like "bump^" or some other meaningless comment.

It says in on the homepage, "ANYONE who enters false information ... will be banned immediately (at Admin's discretion).

And in the recent debate about DSB's I see someone being strongly discouraged for stating his opinion which some have taken to be incorrect, or ill-phrased.

This worries me, because I value the open discussions that this board provides. By threatening to punish those who state opinions not held by the majority, (or the moderator), the board can only suffer by a lack of diverse opions. So little is proven in this hobby, that to only voice statements "proven" to be true, we will have nothing to talk about.

Misinformation should be avoided no doubt, but if it's at the cost of open dialog, we lose more than we gain. If everyone feels comfortable speaking their minds, we will also be able to comfortably correct each other.

Maybe if we had a Experts Forum, we shouldnt have to suffer fools so gladly, but in a a reef discussion forum, let it be a free for all no?

This is an awesome board. I love it, we love it, why change a good thing?

Chris,

The quote that you are referring to is from the Traders Rating thread:
http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2904

This is in respect to anyone who enters a false report in order to hurt another members rating.

This has NOTHING to do with entering false/misunderstood/misinterpreted/etc. statements in the general forums.

This is ONLY relevant to the Trader Ratings System - !!!

I hope that this has cleared up any questions you may have. If not...please contact me, and I will try my best to clarify more.

Sincerely,

I just wanted to agree with Chrismo. This is the definition of forum. : a public meeting place for open discussion c : a medium (as a newspaper) of open discussion or expression of ideas
:: a public meeting or lecture involving audience discussion b : a program (as on radio or television) involving discussion of a problem usually by several authorities . Myself, I think people should be able to speak their minds, within reason. Peoples opinions are just that and anyone can jump in and give their own without critizing or ridiculing the other people(s). Without sharing opinions here none of us will learn anything.

I agree completely. As long as their statements are obviously their opinion and not something they are trying to put forth as fact. Chris, yourself and many others on this board will have a good idea when someone is of base but some one who is new may not. If something is stated as fact then they are apt to take it as such. If something is stated as opinion then if they decide to take it as fact thats up to them, but at least they know that its only an opinion and maybe there is another side to the story to look at before they make an decision.

Myself, when i first started this hobby, and i am sure many others believed most of what i was told as fact. This got me into loads of problems and i experienced many problems and losses due to this. If some one had been there to say "yeah.. sure thats their opinion.. but here is something else to consider" then i would probably have had a much easier go of it.

As far as I am concerned no one was being strong armed into changing their opinion, only to state it as such. If I came across the wrong way i apologize. Only looking for people to state things as opinions when they are just that.

I agree.....Unless the person on this board claims themselves
to BE an expert...then EVERYTHING on this board is basically
OPINION..and people should be allowed to voice it as long
as it is not RUDE to someone else.... I hate it when I see
some people CORRECTING something someone said when
there really was NOTHING GAINED in doing so...sometimes there is a gain but rarely...way too rarely.... It appears there is a
power struggle going on and that is ridiculous....Everyone should just RESPECT the OTHER PERSON'S OPINION wether it be
THE SAME AS THEIRS OR NOT..they are NOT the ones to say it
is RIGHT OR WRONG unlessssss they are an expert....

If you do not agree with someones opinion then simply
and politely say, "I disagree and I feel.......

and that is it...simple....

But people telling others they are WRONG in THEIR OPINION
are WRONG in DOING SO.

food for thought...

Love the board though..it seems to improved alot actually
in the last little while....

Thanks AJ
