Trying to find info on this little guy with not very much luck . Just wondering about suitability with 2 shrimp a starfish and 2 damsels and later I would like to add a purple tang. The only thing I've found is there hard on snail and bristle worm populations and ornamental invertabrates ( what are they ) !

Although never owning a Hawkfish, I think they are cool.
Ornamental Inverts are...cleaner shrimp and stuff like that.
They love perching on corals and do have a personality.
So if ya like shrimp, it may not be for you.

Does size matter , both my shrimp are about 2 1/2 " long and the flame is only 1 1/2 " ?

I all ready have a starfish that eats better than me (scollops) so if the flame thinks he's going to have shrimp he's best off staying where he is!

mpleleaf, I had a red spotted hawk fish that I got 2 years ago which are exactly same as flame hawk he had such a pesonality at 1.5" after a year in my tank he got 3" plus, and let's just say cost me $320 before I was able to catch him & return him to LFS he ate 2 of my cleaner shrimps, 2 blood shrimps killed a sunrise dotyback and chased out of the tank royal gramma & 2 algea blennies not counting the hermits he had for snack, so if you want my advise leave it where it is...

Yeah Dman , that's how I'm feeling right about now . I just had to say goodbye to 3 of my fish . My butterfly didn't make it once the blue-finned damsels found she wasn't up to snuff . They drove her to the grave and I drove them to the pet store ! So now I'm practically back to a pretty bare tank ! Trying to think of restocking ideas but just can't think of anything I really would like to go with my clnr & blood shrimp And starfish . I think I'll order my next lot in from a reputible FS so that means I will have to pay shipping , so make the order count ! So far I've got two ideas , a purple tang and a scooter or lawnmower blenny ! Still got lots of room on the order list thou but trying to come up with something with color ! Maybe try two black percula but scared to get an anenome for I probably would lose the shrimp then !!

If you like Hawks... I know of one not capable of hurting any inverts larger then Copepods. THE LONGNOSE HAWK! I personaly owned one for quite some time! There mostly into eating Brine/ Copepods and other extreamly small forms of food! They do carry the same Characteristics as far as movement and purching habbits!
Right now I have a Speckled Hawk... He is quite large and did eye up my Peppermint shrimp! But he was quite timmid as soon as it started moving! lol:laugh: So no Problems with him either!
But for sure LongNose Hawks... I will try to find and upload a pic!
