A search on AP would have provided you the answer (just look at the bottom of this thread - many "Similar Threads" linked).
ie:
Growing your own phytoplankton (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=9829)
Which would link you to:

Thanks Aj! I've been researching lately about feeding corals. Normally i'm one of those people that dont believe in needing to feed corals other than the left over from what you feed your fish. But i'm mainly trying to find and see what most people use to enhance growth. I searched but i get many different answers and its hard to decide which are really necessary for corals.

I've been doing this a a few days now :giggle: - done it both feeding and not feeding - and like ALL animals on this planet - they require feeding. While some corals can survive with 'left-overs' - they thrive with proper feeding (assuming all other aspects like water parameters, light, flow, etc. are all pristine too).
"Fish" food is just that - food for fish; not corals. It's the wrong material, wrong sizes, etc...and was never intended or designed to provide nutritional sustenance to corals.
Feeding a variety of proper foods is one of the single most important things you can do for your tank inhabitants (both fish and corals).
