I've heard a couple of people say to add garlic to the fishes food . I was just wondering how this benefits the fish and whats the best method of feeding garlic to them !

Personaly i have tried garlic and it kinda seemed to help but i don't feed it as a regular part of the diet, only if i see a problem

I add garlic, ground up to their diet. i make my own food, so it's not that big of a deal. The juries out on this one, but many feel that it helps boost their immune system.
I feed a Hippo Tang some that was so covered in ICH that he apppeared white and I could literally watch the cysts exploding off of his body.

I'm wondering if the dehydrated garlic powder would have the same effectness . I know they both give you bad breath ! I wont be smelling the fishes breath anyway !

You can go to some stores and buy the garlic in Frozen cubes like you find some frozen marine foods.

Can't you just use garlic in one of those crush-type things and drop the wee cubes in the tank along with regular food? I saw some of that Garlic formula stuff at ORG and it is ExPENsive! Mind you, it had all kinds of other stuff in it as well as garlic but a small tube was like $99

Well what i do for my tanks.. is i mixed up foods.. with fresh water!! mash up some flake foods, mix some frozen brine and mysis and then add in some minced Garlic from the store! mix it all up add the water try and evenly seperate it into an ICE Cube tray.. then once frozen i just put them into a bag.. so when its feeding time i just pull out a cube toss it into a cup of tank water and then just dump her in!

Takes me about 10 mins on sunday to make eough food to last me all week!

Getting my fish to eat garlic is like getting the kids to eat their peas, impossible !

Are they actually supposed to eat the garlic because at the end of the feeding the garlic is laying at the bottom of the tank!

I just wanted to correct myself. A small tube was 39.99. It was the large tube that was $99. In my opinion though, the large tube wasn't so large! :)

If you find they're not eating the garlic, you can buy garlic capsules. Open them up and add it to the food that way.
I've done that before, but I missed the smell of the garlic (a personal favorite) and switched back to crushed.
I spend about an hour making enough food to last me just over a month and the total cost is somewhere near 6 bux. Hard to beat that shopping at the LFS.

Dman maybe you could put that recipe on here so we can what a good cook you are . Not that I'm going to taste it , you'll have to just trust me when I tell you that my fish are smacking their lips and hanging around the top of the tank ! LOL

The fish I'm concerned with most is I believe it's a racoon butterfly . I've never found a picture of it but it is very similar , could anyone tell me if a juv. is the same as the adult . Anyway the others are damsel(4) , a blood shrimp and a cleaner shrimp and my Bahama starfish , who eats scollops like they are free ! I fear the butterfly isn't eatting enough and is getting thin !

This is a Chaetodon Fasciatus (Red Sea Racoon Butterfly) There diet consist of algae, plankton, worms and small crustaceans have you tried somthing call Nori.. Or use a more Vegitable baised flake food.

This is the picture That's most similar , except mine has not got the very dark area on his back , the lateral lines are there but not as prominant. that's why I think it's a juvy !

Still have to say that it's very similiar but without the dark along its back . I think it may darken with maturity!

either the racoon or a lemon butterfly?

if its not dark im wondering if it could be a lemmon.. Does it look at like the lemon on the bottom?
