Ok, I want to build a stand for my 90 gallon. It currently has the standard black, steel tube stand which I am sure that when I convert the aquarium to salt it won't take the weight. I am not a carpenter but do have ideas and don't generally screw up too much. If anyone has built their own I would like it if there was any info that you could pass along. Good or bad. Design ideas would be appreciated as well as you know what has to go under it as far as equipment is concerned.:thanks:

Kelly,
There are many DIY ideas out there.
I myself and many of the others here on line have built our own. just wondering what made you think the Black tubestand would not hold? I myself used the tube stand for my 72G at first... but then just did not like the look, So i cut plywood and used selftapping metal screws and screwed the pannels on to the stand so it looking like a home made stand! Looked good!
But as for building, I used Plywood and 2x4s for all my stand i have made, For my 30g, 90g and my now 150g i will post a pick of it.. its not done yet.. but more than strong eough.
This is the stand for my 150G

now in this shot you can see, One thing i do is add Foam insolation between the tank and the stand.

Well you have already given me much info. If you think that the tube steel will work that is great because that was my first thought.
I was just concerned about the weight. Another thought is that the tube only has 6 legs touching the floor, do you think it wise to use plywood underneath to distribute the weight more evenly?
BTW, I really like that cabinet that you have on the last pic.

I would go with the idea of using the Tube stand and just attach plywood to it all the way around, and then just make some doors in the front.. or leave it open. As long as the stand is level you would not have to worry about it.. Because the only added weight you are adding to the tank is the rock.. now by adding that weight you are taking out the weight of the water :)
Just you want to add the plywood as its going to add the added stability to prevent it from collapsing if it where ever bumped..
I know that i did it with my old tank, and know many others have.. and no one to this day has said there where any issues with it ..
Good luck..
