I just set up my new tank today, I need some info as per pumps

I do not want to use any powerheads because I am reaching the wire capacity due to the inner diameter of the Stand PIPE, This pipe runs through from under my tank to the canopy above.

The guy who sold me the tank and sump gave me a pump to try its a Little Giant 4MSC or something to that effect
It pumps 850 G / Hour My tank is 6 ft long

I dont think that it is moving the water. Is it under powered for a 6 ft tank ?

I dont want to over do it but I have seen a local deal on a twin head pump with 1200GPS on each side (2400 Total )

I am thinking of using one to power sump / refuge

and the other in a closed loop

Is 2400 GPH too much

How much GPH do I need to make sure that stuff does not settle ?

I only have one return but can extend it to go around the tank with multiple openings what do you think is the ideal placement

please note that the return pipe is right next to the overflow stand pipe and is located in the left back of the tank

Personally I think the more flow the better, I have a 1283 gph return pump + 6 power heads in my 75 gallon, 3 power heads on on a timer and wavemaker so they are only on during the day, the other 3 are on continously

It is fine to try to stay away from powerheads, but IMO you should have atleast 2 different pumps on your system so that if one of them takes the big dirt nap you still have some circulation till you get a replacement.

Scott I have a extra Pump ( Old one for fountains ) I was going to use it but I think its max 200GPH at 5 ft so I am keeping it in case of pump failure.

But it is not connected to the system
