I am new to the hobby. I currently live in Calgary. For water changes, I was wondering if it would be necessary to buy a RO/DI unit? I have not tested the tap water. To be honest, I am not 100% sure what I am looking for in the water that harms the fish. I am under the impression that if you mix your sea water 1 week before your water change using tap water, you circulate, heat and dechlorinate the water it is safe to add to the aquarium.
Could someone give me some advice? RO/DI water or heated, circulated and dechlorinated Calgary tap water mixed 1 week before water change.

This will be for a FOWLR system

Thanks for all your help

100% YES.

Treating the water with chemicals barely binds the chlorine, and doesn't address the dozens of other problems in tap water.

Just like you need a tank - you need RO/DI water.

Yes. Get RO/DI. I used tapwater in the beginning. It's a crapshoot as your water can change from day to day depending on what the water treatment plants are doing.
