i just purchased a tang and was looking for the type of tang it is and the only thing i came across was Black Tang, Zebrasoma rostratum I'm trying to take a few pictures but it seem's to be shy, its only been in my display tank for 2 days. I will upload pictures asap.

i recommend you take it back.

1: your tank isn't big enough.
2: you don't even know what kind of tang that is, therefore rendering it an impulse purchase. a very expensive one at that, if it is indeed a black tang.

Maybe its a Z. scopas tang - they are sometimes labelled as black tangs when they are juvis they have a very dark colour, but it will brown out as the fish gets older

Definitely needs to be removed and given a proper home.

If it's of the Zebrasoma spp - I can assure you it's not a (Black Tang) Z. rostratum - as you will pay ~$500.00 for that fish...IF you can find one.

I can also GUARANTEE that it's not a Gem Tang - Zebrasoma gemmatum - as not only are they next to impossible to get, they are almost always pre-ordered - and will cost you ~$3,000 USD.

As was mentioned - likely a Juvenile Scopas Tang - Z. scopas - which would still need a >100Gallon tank.

1 = Take It Back!!
2 = Research BEFORE purchase!!
