View Full Version : New Attachment Viewer

We have installed a new (nicer) Attachment Viewer.

Instead of having to click on each attachment, and having it open into a new window...now, when you click on it - it will pop-up directly on your screen. There will be navigation buttons right on the image - or you can use your keyboards arrow keys to move through them.

See:
http://www.aquariumpros.ca/ajx22/attachments/attach1.jpg

http://www.aquariumpros.ca/ajx22/attachments/attach2.jpg

http://www.aquariumpros.ca/ajx22/attachments/attach3.jpg

You can also now insert captions for your attached images.

To do so, in the full New Thread/New Post/New Reply screen (not the quick reply) - at the top under the Spell-Check you will now see the http://www.aquariumpros.ca/highslide/graphics/attcap.gif icon.

Clicking this allows for Captions.

To do so - you can read about it in the FAQ (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/faq.php) - Reading and Posting Messages (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_read_and_post) - Are there any special codes/tags I can use to markup my posts? (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/faq.php?faq=vb_read_and_post#faq_vb_special_codes) - vB code (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode) - (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode#attcap)

<table class="tborder" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="1" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td class="tcat" colspan="2">Attachment Caption</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="thead" colspan="2" style="font-weight: normal;">This code allows you to add captions to your attachment images. When your attachments are clicked, they will have this caption below the large image in the pop-out window. You use them so [attcap=1234] where 1234 = the attachment id, you can see the attachment id by hovering over the attachment and making a note of the URL it links to, it will include "attachmentid=". You may use bbcode such as [b] bold and [i] itallic to format your caption text.</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td class="alt1" width="20%">Usage</td> <td class="alt1">[attcap=Option]value</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td class="alt2" width="20%">Example Usage</td> <td class="alt2">Pretty Picture</td></tr></tbody></table>
So - when you click on the http://www.aquariumpros.ca/highslide/graphics/attcap.gif icon, you'll get a pop-up asking for the option...this is where you would enter in the attachmentid (see above). You would then see the following on your screen (assuming you entered 21876 as the attachmentid):

You would then enter in the caption of your choice BETWEEN the ][ in order to display it below the picture - ie:

This is where you would enter your caption text

Would give you (click the attachment thumbnail below):
This is where you would enter your caption text

This is definately the nicest forum board out there. There are many others that should follow suit.

RC, are you watching???

Is there anyway to "zoom in" the picture after it's opened up?

:hail: Thank you. We do definitely try!

Is there anyway to "zoom in" the picture after it's opened up?

Photo Attachments are limited to a maximum of 640x480. The Pop-Up will open the attachment in the actual size...so it is 'zoomed' to it's real size immediately.

If you want to have larger images (larger then 640x480) - you would then upload them to the AP Photo & Video Gallery (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/photopost/index.php) - and then link to the image in one of the ways that is listed under the uploaded image - or use some other photo-hosting site.

Hope this make sense,

FYI -

<shift>SHIFT + clicking on the original thumbnail will still open it up in a new window opposed to the pop-up.

AJ:

Have you ever considered limiting the size to 800x600? It would allow just that little bit extra detail. You could keep the max file size the same. Just a thought.

This is an awesome feature, I really love it. Saying that it works really good on my new dual core athlon, but it is kinda slow on my 1gig labtop, the difference is kinda freaky. On the older computer it just kinda pops up after 4 or 5 seconds and then kinda choppy, while on the new one its really cool can actually see it maximize from the small thumb - oh well all new technology means we must throw away the old lol. Nice job though, really like the feature overall!

It's completely based on Javascript that is preloaded into the header of all pages anyhow - so there is nothing to slow the pages.

I would suggest that you check that you're running current versions of browsers, etc.

That explains alot. On the new athlon I have internet explorer 6 works great. On the old labtop I got internet explorer 7.0.5730.11 WOW, I really hate it slows down everything, including this great new attachment viewer!

Also note that ALL aspects of AP.ca are first designed to work smoothly under Firefox.

There are some aspects of AP.ca that will always be faster and better with Firefox. I only verify that modifications work under MSIE7.

Once I switch ALL my personal systems to Apple - I'll test on Safari too - however - AP.ca will still remain a Firefox-based site. Firefox is developed under all 3 primary platforms (Windows/Mac OS/Linux) - so it only makes sense to design for it, and NOT proprietary crap like MS. Counting the days till I get my MacBook Pro!!! :woohoo: - and when Leopard launches - OMG! Hell Yeah!

Anyone who has not switched yet - DO SO!! MSIE is garbage compared to Firefox...MS copied Mozilla of most of their changes to version 7 (tabbed-browsing, etc.).

lol - yeah my laptop's running P4 3.0GHz, 2Gig's RAM - still too slow. Upgrading to an Apple MacBook Pro (17", 2.33GHz, 3Gig's RAM, 120G HDD) --unless they launch the new models by April.

Firefox ROCKS though! Especially after you skin/theme it (I run Noia 2.0 Extreme (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/72/)) and add plug-ins.

Blue Ice (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3085/) is also cool.

Now now, let's not make AJ the centre attention. We'd hate to have him turn into a bull that just saw the colour red.

Ok, back to the subject at hand. This viewer is cool, first I've seen on the english forums.
