Can anyone recommend a good super glue for glueing frags to rocks?

Loc-tite or Crazy Glue Gel work well.

o.k. thanks Mugster. I guess you can pick that up at any hardware store. Also, does it say anything on the package about being non-toxic? Does it matter?

Hi All,
Im kinda wondering the same thing as Mook regarding any possible toxicity issues with using loctite or crazy glue to glue frags.
Thx

We've all been doing it for many, many years -
It's safe to do.

The number one thing to watch out for is gluing your fingers together. Seems to happen quite often. Keep some nail polish remover handy.

On a side note ....Loctite carries another line of Glue (one of many) ...it's called Flexible Glue and is recommended for aquarium glass as well ... kinda like Silicone type agent!!

Pick up the loctite at staples, it's only 4.99 there. I think it was near $7 at canadian tire.

If you live near a walmart, they have a thick superglue gel for 1.99 with even larger volume than the loctite gel container. It seems to have the exact same consistency as loctite gel
The one issue with this bottle is that the closure mechanism is very annoying and it seems to harden up after every use. I have to use a pushpin and paperclip to remake a hole each time almost.
But if you're glueing lots of things at one shot, it's the value oriented glue =)

Can I ask a dumb question ?... can you apply the loctite or super glue to the frag and attach it under water to the rock ? or do you have to actually take the rock out of the tank then glue it and put it back ?... In my case I want to attach a frag to the rock at the bottom, but I can't take it out 'cause I don't want a rock slide !.... Thanks in advance for the answer ...

no questions are dumb :)
you have to take the rock out and dry it a bit with a towel. two part epoxy you can use underwater, but that stuff doesn't work very well.

Thanks Tim ! I have been using the 2 part epoxy and I agree with you that it does not seem to stick very well unless you keep holding on to it, pressing it against the surface you want to attach to and keep it still for a few minutes underwater... but I guess it's my only option if I can't take the rock out....

Superglue is great, but You wouldnt want to use Superglue to glue anything big together... After time the superglue gets brittle and weak. With corals, usually the coral will grow onto the rock on its own eventually, so it doesnt matter if the superglue weakens.
You can also use epoxy AND glue together to make a more solid bond. I'm not co-ordinated enough to do it, but have heard others swear by it.

Collect small pieces of live rock and attach frags to it with the Loctite gel and then use the epoxy to attach the mounted frag to larger rocks in your tank. If you are gluing a frag directly to a rock in your tank, in additon to not gluing your finegers together, be careful there is not too much excess around the base for curious shrimp or fish to sample and get into trouble.

I've tried too many glues for fragging zoos, and the best one I have come across is from Praire Reef Supplies. Here's a comparison of the size of the Loctite, and Praire Reef Supplies Glue, for $10 I can easily Do over 50 zoo,
frags. lasts forever, and nice and thick. About 3 times as much as the loctite which is about $6 a bottle around here.
