WOW!! Nice May I ask what your lighting setup / schedule is ?

Bert, the lighting consist of 3x 250W Metal halides 10K AB, 2x 110W VHO Actinics & 2x 25W blue party lights for moonlight efect which I'm in process of changing them with LED's since these bulbs put lots of heat in the tank, lighting schedule are as follow 12pm Actinics on, 3pm Halides on, 9pm Halides off, 12am Actinics off & moonlight kicks in till 7am.
The reason my Halides ore on short photoperiod becuse of heat problems, I'm in progress of adding 2 more fan's in the hood & hopefully by next summer I'll have a chiller as well otherwise for 8 months of the year the Halides are on from 2pm till 10pm, the past few months my temps were in mid 80's even with my room AC on 24/7.

Tim, most of my Acro's are from Ken (Reefquarium) on Woodbine & 14th Ave. he has decent quality hard corals but the prices are little on a high side, also got few from John (North American Fish Breeders) he is getting a nice shipment next month from Fiji & Indonesia.:D

Well those are extremely nice corals from what I have seen.
Do you think they would do ok under 2x175 + 2 x40watt actinic
supplement if I place them up high? There is a fair amount
of current in the tank and the tank itself is incredibly healthy.
What do you think? Is it enough light?
Thanks

Tim, to be honest with you I don't recomend keeping these type of corals unless you have at least 250W Halides perferable 400W, with my curent setup of 3x250W + 220W VHO these guys don't thrive.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying you can't keep them under 175W Halides but the problem is to get them color up nicely you defenetly need more than that.
Look at the pics below & compare them, this Acro I had in my 90G since February 2002 and it was lit by 2x175W 10K + 220w VHO.
When I brout this guy home it was teal base/branch with briliant baby blue tips.

Agreed..

Tim i have tried them in my 30 Gallon tank, under a 10K 175 watt halide and a 10k and actinic Power compact (55Watts) and they did not do well.. bleached out fast!

And this is few months later

As you see there is abviously sign of growth but has lost all the color & turned completely brown, now with the 250's the color has changed to darker green with white tips & the growth is much better as well, hopefully some day it will turn to it's original color but I highly doubt that.

Red Sea, what a PERFECT example of DOING IT RIGHT and
how it can GO WRONG...or NOT AS GOOD...

You have answered a question perfectly that has been on my mind...I will NOT get sps then until I have an amazing amount of
more light....I do NOT want bleached or FADED AWAY corals....
I want them bright and vibrant or they DO NOT go in my tank.

Thanks very much for the perfect example.

Wowww...looks like my future goal will be to set up a
sps tank.....tunzes the whole 9 yards! I am picking up
a 65 gallon from Chrismo so perhaps that is what that tank
will turn into thanks to your excellent examples and pictures.

I am verrrry impressed.

Thanks
Tim

What affect have the shortened photoperiod had on your reef?

Red-Sea

Nigel, the reason I cut back on photoperiod is due to high temp I was experiancing, for the last few months my temp's were up to 86-88F during the day so I decided to cut back 2 hours also turned off my Vho's when the Halides were on, but so far no ill efects from my corals due to a light cut back.
I got to put some money away for a chiller before next summer comes along...:(
