I just got myself a 7 gal tank with I plan to set up as a nano reef, and along with it I got some live rock and a piece with some polyps on it.

I’ve put about 3 gal of water from my established 30 gal fish only tank into the 7 gal. And I an wondering should I put the piece with polyps in to 7gal, or could I put it in my 30 gal for now. The reason I am hesitating on putting it in my 30 gal tank is that I have a humma-humma trigger fish in there and I am pritty sure he would eat it up in short order. So for now the rock with the polyps is still in the bag I got it in many an hour ago

Your advise would be greatly appreciated !!!

Better in the 7 than in the bag. If the Trigger may eat them this obviously would not be a good choice. Polyps are quite hardy and should pull through for you. Keep on top of your water though as you may get very fast spikes inyour small tank. Frequent water changes and wait before buying any more. Having almost half your water from your established tank should help. Good luck.

You probobly know this, but treat your 7 Gallon like reef tank, with sand, and Rock. These things will help stabilize your tank. I think they are even more important on a smaller tank.

Good luck!

HI there,

I have a 10 gallon nano doing remarkable.
I have a prism skimmer on it that keeps the water clean
and a power filter for flow only....and a 400 powerhead...
How are you moving the water in your 7 gallon?
The rock you bought is it cured or uncured?
What are you using for light on the 7 gallon?

I agree that the polyps should go in the 7 gallon not
in the 30....

Live sand in addition to the rock might help dramatically if
you can get your hands on some.....how long has the 30 gallon
been set up? Maybe steal some from it?

Good luck
Tim
