Unfortunately - I am bumping this thread again due to the recent server bogging we have experienced. Over the last 3-weeks - we have jumped up over a GIG of transfer!! We are now averaging OVER 25-million hits per month to AP.ca!!
As stated in this THREAD (http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?p=113849) - we have had to make some changes to the site to reduce the server load...and without upgrading the server some more - we are stuck like this.
Anyone that finds that AquariumPros.ca deserves some support - can make a donation via the method listed above (UserCP) - (Control Panel) - (Miscellaneous) - (Paid Subscriptions).
We now have over 3,500 members - so if just a few of you jumped in here - we could definitely make some more changes for the better to the AquariumPros.ca site & community.
Thank you so very much for your continued support of this fantastic community.
Sincerely,
The .::AquariumPros.ca::. Team

We need to raise about $280 US to have a specialized server guru come look at the server to uncover the underlying problem. If you can help, please, we'd truly appreciate it, and I'd actually get some sleep over the next few days :)

When I click on the Order button it takes me to this page that tells me to click the order button. "To pay for your subscription, please click the order button next to your preferred payment method and follow the instructions on the following page." I am trying to give some money but the link doesn't seem to be working.

Thank you so much...
We are still trying to work out the issues ourselves - but all of our tests are not finding the underlying problem - yet.
We're working on it - and hope to be able to incorporate the assistance of the hosts guru to speed-up the process.
Many thanks to those who have - and will assist.

I'd like to help but I don't have a PayPal account, is there another method? I sent you money once to your address AJ but I no longer have it, give it to me again and I will mail you $20. PM it if you don't want to post it publicly. Or can I give money to a sponser? I'm afraid to go to any stores though, I'll end up spending money, lol.

I'll take that challenge. I lurk here so often, I'd hate to lose this resource -- and since I'm planning a new setup this year, I'm going to need help :).

My web programmer may be able to help you, as he specializes in PHP, so if you want my company's help I can make him available to you, and if he can't fix it there won't be any charge.
I will just charge for his time, which will be far less then the 280USD you need. Let me know, and if so I/he will need access to your code.

Thanks Mike...
You will have to discuss this with Morgalis - as it's her server.
The unfortunate situation is that despite Morgalis being very knowledged in php/etc - there is something in the root of the server that is running jobs that are killing the server. There are a few other small sites that are hosted on our server as well - but we know for 100% sure that it's something within the AP.ca site causing the issues. Where the problem lies is that to correct this - root access to the server would need to be granted - and it's not just AP.ca that would be accessible.
Cheers,
Sleep_Keeper

  Mike that is a very gracious offer for you to have made, I wish I could do the same. I wish you a strong kudos!!
Unfortunately at the time the only way I can is with money. As a result I have chosen to pay for my subscription, I hope that this along with the donations of others will help solve the dilemmas that this website is currently facing. I can only imagine the blood sweat and tears all of the AP moderators have been shedding to keep this wonderful resource alive.
I hope that the users of this site realize that there is little to be gained by the moderators other than the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to enhance the reefing community. To many this would not be enough to endure this kind of torture and frustration, however they are doing what they can to persevere. I hope that everyone realizes that a hobby is a great thing to have but when it interrupts the rest of your life one will realize it is time to give it up. Please lets make sure that the AP moderators never reach this point. $20 is not much to ask, and truthfully what other resource could you get for this price - 2 measly poorly editted magazines!!
Please everyone do your part to help this site survive and fluorish, you would do anything for your fish - I think this counts as something your fish will need sometime in the future.

My first post out of the way!!!
I just handed in my tiny contribution as I have been a "looker" for the past couple of months and learned a lot.
Thanks and good luck in locating the source of the problem soon.

Check your pm for my comments, thank you for your offer. AJ is correct that the problem lies deeper on the root access level for performance and why mysql quits every hour. He may be able to help find out what php script is causing the insane server loads hourly thought.
To everyone else that donates, thank you kindly. The tech support at the data centre are having trouble with this as well and passed me onto paid support as it is outside of their regular realm due to the fact it is one site causing the issues. Data centre's suggestion was to suspend the site and I am not willing to do that.
Thank you again folks, every donation gets us closer to securing paid support.

Hi people. You know, although I am relativeley new here to the site and as a member, there is something that just blows my mind. There is probably no one here that can honestly say that they did not benefit from this site in one way or another. Be it getting some information that would help them from others, finding out about items that people or sponsors have for sale, helping them sell their own things, or just making some new friends. Over 1300 people have viewed this thread, 3531 people are users, 109,612 posts have been made and there are 13,413 threads. I do know that money is tight for many people. But, how many of you have bothered to help keep this site running? How many people have stopped to think of all the benefits we have here or how much time it takes to keep it running? Come on people. I can understand if only 10 or 20 people viewed this thread , but over 1300 and hardly any have helped out? Blows my mind.

Well I personally have viewed this thread probably 30 times...everytime there is a new post I view it adding to that 1300 number, I do notice ALOT of the regular contributers HAVE donated to this great site in the last few days! I personally have as well donated what I could afford as I can only find part-time work where I live and this hobby isn't cheap as we ALL know! I would have loved to donate more and will when I can afford it...we all are donating what we can to get this board running smooth and keep it running smooth! I personally would like to thank AJ and every moderator here and anyone else who works in the background to keep this board running as smooth as it does you are ALL doing a great job! And I would like to thank EVERYONE who has made a contribution these last few days no matter how small or big it was it is the thought and helpfullness of everyone here that makes this site so great! THANK YOU ALL!

Ron believe me when I say that what I wrote was not to insult anybody, nor was it meant as a personal attack on anyone. Yes, you are correct. We are not in the cheapest hobby on this planet. All I meant was that since we all benefit from this site in one way or another we should help out as much as we can.

Alright folks -
MANY thanks to all that have helped AP to come-up with the needed funds to rectify the server issue we were having. It is at least nice to know that it was an exploit that no-one knew about - yet.
As always - we are still accepting donations to assist with the maintenance costs of AquariumPros.ca.
Anyone that can assist - we thank you ...

I never noticed the little "donate" button until now.
I've now donated and am very happy to do so. When I
think about all the money I spend on books and
magazines for this hobby, $50 or $60 is not very much for all the information I've received by coming here.
This is the best reef site out there. Thank you AJ and
everyone else for dedicating your time and effort in
keeping it up.

Agreed! People on this site have saved my butt on more than one occasion, so I had no issues with donating to help keep it running. I am happy to pay for a service as valuable as AP provides to me. I learn new things every day, so there's a good return on investment for me! :)

Lets all think of how much money this site has saved us, either by steering us away from crappy skimmers, lights, powerheads, test kits,supplements..the list goes on and on. Without this site how much money would we have wasted?? I know I have saved enough money from the advice given at this site to give a small amount back.
