Meet ** Sir Spitsalot**

This is my new baby.. An electric blue Crocea. 3 inches in size.. Just added him to my tank lastnight.. seems to have adjusted pretty well?

I named him the above.. becouse while he was in my little bucket doing his 5 hour Aclimation he spat at me several times.. as i would look into the bucket to see how he was doing and he would turn and spit up at me.. What a cuttie.. :)

So what do you all think, Seems to be looking healthy does he not?

Now as you can see from this shot.. I have heard that these clams live i the shallower waters..

So i have him positioned so that he is about 3-4 inche from the water line.. and that makes him about 8 inches from the halide..

its a 175 Watt Ushio 10k !

So what do you all think? Someone has told me that becouse the bottom slit in this picture is soo big that he is dieing? what do you all think ? what are some stress signs in clams?

Michael, the slit at the bottom is the inhalant siphon. It does not look too big. The major thing to look for in a stressed clam is gaping. Gaping is where the mantle becomes extremely retracted and because of this the inhalant siphon may look alot larger than usual. In gaping, the mantle literally pulls away from the shells untill it looks like just a thin bit of tissue. Your clam looks healthy enough to me. Bear in mind that if a clam shows signs of stress, you have to do something immediately or else the clam could die. They tend to go downhill much faster than corals.

Cool, I mean the clam looks good, his mantel is out abit.. then again its only bee a couple of days.. so he is still adjusting.

Very nice looking clam Tooloud! I do not know bugger
all about them...but I looks like a very nice animal!

Congrats!

I have heard they are a little tricky sometimes to keep
and I too have heard once they start to go downhill it
can be quite fast...so keep an eye on him....

But..very nice looking to me..

Congrats again!

Yea well spitting is just them getting stressed and and exhaling the water in the shell when they close..

Tooloud, if you don't mind my asking what did you pay for your clam? I was looking at one the other day, a Blue Crocea about 5"-6" in length. The price was $159. Is this a good price?

i bought mine from a local reefer who was leaving the hobby.. Bought it at $70 so yea for a nice looking one that size 160 is good.. this on is only about 2-3 inches.

Kevin, if it's 5-6" Crocea it's worth around $110-120 but same size Maxima would be worth around $180-190.

Check out Reefquarium, they have bunch of them and I bought a 4" Crocea Teal color for $80.

Actually if it's a genuine 5" - 6" and Ultra it could go for more like $200 - $250 depending on colour and pattern.

I think :)

Today, Day 3 of my clam being in the tank, his mantel has not changed awhole lot.. im thinking maybe thats it as he is still young.. but i noticed this morning there is a small gap under his shell the way the rock is formed.. but i can see his foot out.. its a whitish colored looks like cartledge.. but its out in a kinda tripod shape and its making contact with the rock.. So i think things are going to be good!

Mike, I agree with Dany - the colour difference is amazing between your first pics and the ones now. MUCH nicer (imho) now! Looks much more blue instead of purple.

Hmmm... wasn't it you that said... too bad we can't frag clams! LOL

yea when you look at the clam from a distance, it looks more purple. but when you get closer to it.. it looks bluer!

But now it does look much nicer.. the speckles are nicer to now! Wil have to give it some time.. and when i get dany over here with his new flashy camera i can get some closer shots!
