I have under a half hour to choose between a XM 250 20K DE or a geessmann 250 20K DE, for around a $50 dollar difference what should I go with!!! and what will the differences be!

If you haven't already purchased it, I would go with the Geisemann bulb between the two.
Are you set on chosing between one of those two?
The phoenix 14k bulb at 250w still provides a nice blue colour but with much brighter light.

I have delayed the purchase until tomorrow, I was going to go with the geessmann because ORG didn't have any MX in, I am new to MH lighting and I haven't started with much corals but I want zoo and colorful things like that. I don't know much about the phenix but I do like reading others opinions and taking from their experience! I have until tomorrow at lunch! Thanks!

I used both XM 250 20K DE and geessmann 250 20K DE; geessmann last much longer...
Anyway, I'm trying/using phoenix 250 14.?K DE.. (cheaper...) (only 3 weeks) so far so good. Let see what happen 1/2 year later !!!

Guys you are all forgetting one important factor.... the ballast. It makes a HUGE difference in bulb longevity, coloration, coral growth.
So... what ballast do you have?

I think he's got the Aqua Medic fixture like me, so it'll be an HQI ballast. Now I've heard that the Phoenix bulbs burn whiter and don't last as long on HQI ballasts...so that may not be a good choice.
This is a good thread because I'd like to know what kind of replacement bulbs I can get for this ballast when the time comes. I'm thinking Geiseman, but I'm not sure how they are on HQI's.

I was thinking of going with 3 Giesemann 20K and either 2 Aquaconnect 14K or 2 Phoenix 14K. I think that should be a nice balance. All on electronic ballasts.
