I just bought a berlin skimmer 25 gal to 225 gal. It does not come with a pump. I was wondering if I could put a mag7 pump to it. I also have a little giant pump but I don't know the model can anyone give me a hand in finding out. I bought the new skimmer to replace my seaclone 100. I hope it is better then my seaclone. Thanks for any advice in advance.. http://aquariacanada.com/forums/images/smilies/biglaugh2.gif :lolol:

The model I would guess would be a berlin classic turbo, but I did not get the pump with it so it must just be a classic. :hurray:

Your lucky day. I have had two Berlin skimmers, one still in tank and use Little Giant external pumps.
The mag 7 is a good pump for the Berlin Classic, which needs at least a 700 GPH pump or slightly better. I'm running a RIO 2500 with no problems. Need to clean out the pump impeller monthly though to keep the skimmer operating at its peak. This is easy with the RIO and a pain with the Mag 7.
Check to see if you have a venturi and air intake hose in the intake port of the skimmer. The turbos had the venturi as part of the pump. If no venturi and no Mag 7 on hand you may want to get yourself an aspirating (needlewheel) pump.
The Little Giant pump looks like an old model 3. Can't tell if its the pressure rated model or not. The non pressure rated pump is 1150 GPH @ 0 ft. the pressure rated pump is about 750-800 GPH @ 0 ft and doesn't fall of much until over 10 ft of head pressure, if I remember correctly.
I've found the LG pumps to be extremely reliable and fairly quiet. Just swapped out a 3 MDQX-SC last week due to a worn magnetic impeller shaft. That pump is 7 years old and the previous one lasted over 10 before the bearings went bad. Just remember to oil the bearings every three months and they last for many years.
