Can anyone tell which skimmer is better between red sea prizm pro and remora aquaC i have limited space to put one ie. under 4" between tank and wall My tank is 90gal with 20gal refugium/surge tank the water level in main tank is also variable due to surge tank if that matters. I am just getting started in reef tanks and have not yet set up this system. I have read a lot of books and am trying to get as much info as possible before setting it up thank you for your help

I would say between those two definetely the Remora but you'll have to get the Pro model for a 90gal. I had an Urchin Pro which is the in sump version of that skimmer and was pretty happy with it. It was a consistent performer that was plug and go. No fiddling around all the time. Then a Aqua C EV90 came up for sale and I got greedy. That worked okay, but was inconsistent. Then Tim (Sohoal Tang) put his DAS BX-1 up for sale when he got his monster skimmer and I had to have it. It's a needle wheel design and it is awesome. It is the best thing I've bought for my tank so far. I doubt I'll ever get rid of it (sorry Tim). Another skimmer that would in my opinion be a great choice is an Aqua Medic Turbflotr. They have a hang on version(cant remember the name). These are also a needle wheel design. I've heard only good things about them and for a 90gal it's probably a better choice if you have the room. :D

I've got Remora Pro with Mag 5, it's really good, but a bit noisy. I've got it in build-in cabinet and can still hear it. I've heard BackPak 2 is not that noisy, but it's less efficient.

FYI...
There's little to no tweaking on any of the AquaMedic line of skimmers. Set & forget.
I have a TurboFlotor 5000 (single) - and LOVE it more then words can express!
We have sold TONS of the TurboFlotor 1000 and Multi's - and everyone loves them!!

Ken, remember our agreement...if you ever sell the
DAS...I WANT IT BACK!! hehehe I get first right of
refusal...thattttt is how good that DAS is folks....
By the way....If you check with Tom at ORG there is a
chance they are getting a new skimmer line in....
It may be the way to go....check with him before
you buy anything is my recommendation on thisone..
He was telling me the other day about the new
line that they might begin carrying ...
Tim

I have 2 prism hang ons and HATE them! They are fragile and hard to replace parts when they break. The body is one moulded piece so that when one small thing breaks, you have to replace the entire body. Personally I had one of the air intake nipples break off when removeing the air hose to dump the collection cup, and one of the clips that holds the intake tube to the motor. I would never get one again. Also the performance is nothing like it should be on a skimmer. I know that some peoiple love them but this is my experience with them. For those of you that love them, try someone elses skimmer on your tank for a few days. You will be shocked at the extra junk that their skimmer will pull out!

I agree...I am not impressed with the Prism...I have one that
I got with a kit for a great price so I am DAMN LUCKY that I
did not pay full pop for this thing.....I know also that even a
KNOP would pull out wayyyy more or a Big Mombassa.....
The prism is CUTE but performance from it totally SUCKS.
Just an opinion of course....and I agree...just try another
skimmer and THEN decide how it is....
I even venture to say that I think even a SEACLONE is better!
Even a skilter..ahhhhhh well....lets not go THAT far!! hehehe

Anyone out there using a Prism Pro and having
good luck with it? I am wondering if it is much better
then the small prism?

The Prism skimmers are piece of S**T, leave them at the LFS.IMO
the best hang on skimmer that I have seen & been proved till this day is the Aqua medic Turboflotor 1000Multi, it's an amazing unit for the price & construction is excellent, easy 1/4 twist collection cup removal, good size for tanks up to 100G, removes nice dark scum from your water and it's pretty quite when used with original Ocean Runner pump & the best part is if you decide to add a sump to your system will easily convert from hang on to in sump operation...

I just picked up the Aqua-Medic TurboFlotor 1000 Multi and I love this thing. Setup took 6 mins, straight out of the box in HOT mode. I had it running for 5 hrs with nothing in the tank other than conditioned tap water and the stuff it pulled out scared me into buying bottled water for the rest of my life.
It's quiet, was easy to adjust and pulls out some beautiful guck! I bought it in Calgary for 350 flat, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

What would be a good skimmer for a 15g. Preferably one that isn't over 200 dollars. Would a seaclone 100 work well?

Saline solution air driven will work better than any seaclone (seacrap) skimmer, just need to change the limewood once a month and it cost less of the seaclone.

What about those skimmers people were talking about the other week the ER Knock-offs, how do they compare with these skimmers mentioned.

The small one's a cut above a Remora, and in a completely different league than the SeaClone and Prizm ... but it has to be run in a sump. I have the small one and it works amazingly well (especially since it's cheaper than the Remora), but it spews out bubbles. Also quieter than the Remora ...
My only gripe is that it's much harder to dial-in than the Remora. The Remora's absolutely Plug'n'Play. The knock-off is touchy about how deep the pump is, and if you adjust the skimmer improperly, it'll easily overflow its collection cup.

Now between ER Knock-off and Berlin Turbo, which way would people go?

I am very happy with my Berlin Turbo. Large collection cup and a great skimmer. From what I know they are much cheaper then the ER knock-offs too.

My tank is a 50 Gallon so I am not the best to ask. From the research I did I was told that the Seaclone is an OK skimmer. Here's my question to you.
Do you think you will ever upgrade in the future?
With me, I started in Freshwater with a 10 Gallon, then 20, then 30, 50, 120. As I learned more and enjoyed it more I kept upgrading the size of my tank and it ended up costing alot because I had to upgrade the hardware to support the bigger demand.
I bought the Aqua-Medic because if I upgrade to a bigger tank the Aqua-Medic will support it. So IF!, you think you will upgrade in the future spend the money on a good protein skimmer that can grow with your needs. The best thing about the Aqua is it can be used as a Hang on and later when you grow can be placed in a sump.
Can you tell I love the Aqua-Medic? How do I go about getting shares?

I have the Prizm Pro but would not recommend it. I find the Prizm very dificiult to 'tune'. I can not assess how good a job it does but would recomend you look elsewhere, since it is my 1st skimmer. After I bought it I did my home work, think I would now go for the Remora or a DIY setup.
