:help: I have a 33 gallon fish tank and the past week the water is very cloudy, how can I fix this. I have two red tiger oscar and four louches in the tank. the Oscar are only babys yet so I can't see them makeing the water cloudy. I only feed them twice a day in the morning and at night. I changed 25% of the water to see if that will help but no luck. HELP! HELP! :fish: :fish:

Is it cloudy with sand? Or algae?
Could it be that you have some current from a filter hitting the sand?

I don't have sand I have gravel in my tank. I don't think it's algae either. I tried the product Crystal clear and that didn't work either. So today I changed some more of my water and i cleaned my filters so I hopeing that will work. Maybe the pump is to powerful fo my tank. What type of pump do you think should be on a 33gallon tank. Please help.

How long has the tank been set up?
Try activated carbon

I would test your different levels in your tank. It sounds similar to the "new tank syndrom" that freshwater tanks go through when they are first set up. It very often occurs in the first few weeks that the tank is set up. Are the fish new additions to the tank? This could have caused the mirky water as the levels are adjusting. Check levels and try adding something such as "cycle" to your tank to promote bacteria growth.

Hi guys,
I just discovered that maybe the cloudyness came from when I hade to medicate my fish they had cloudy eyes. and I gave them Mela Fix, hope that was all right. So I checked my PH level and that was alright. so if i use cycle that could cure my cloudy water do you think.

If it is due to the medication, cycle will not get rid of the cloudiness. You will have to use activated charcoal like Nigel suggested. If it is due to the fact that your tank is going through a cycle because of the new fish, than the product called Cycle should help. Do you have Nitrite, Amonia and Nitrate test kits yet? If not, take your water to your local fish store. Most will test it for free or for a minimal charge. The cloudiness may be due to one of these being high. I can't remember which one it is that causes the cloudiness in newer tanks. I remember when the Big Als opened in Barrie last year, they fought the cloudiness situation for a good month before it went away.

Hi guys,
This is a new filter and I didn't put the filter in until after the med. was through that was 7 days. The melafix box said not to put in the filters while giving med, so I just had the sponge in there. After the seven days I changed 25% of the water and then put in the new filters. Maybe I need to change the filters again. I did put in new fish the louches that was Saturday night but I think my water was cloudy then. So I'm going to change my carbon and By the cycle product and hope for the best, I just don't want Fred and Barney to die on me.
