OK we found this in our aquarium today and I really have NO CLUE what it is.

Heres the video (http://members.shaw.ca/lugg/tank/what%20is%20this.wmv), it's kinda low quality. You'll probably have to right click it and do a Save Link As or Save Target As.

Heres the Pic. Just so you all know, the hole that the "thing" is in, is really only about 2-3mm wide.

Thanks for the help guys/gals hope you can figure it out!

Nice wmv! Really liked it.

I don't know what it is so I'll tag along.

It seems to eat the way a crab does.

Creepy. Reminds me of the creature from the 'Alien' series with it's mouth withing a mouth.

Really?!! That's so wierd, I have other feather dusters but they sure don't look like that!

The worm bores itself into the rock work rather than secreting a tube. I've had a few that I've removed, now wishing that I had taken pictures. It uses the 'hair' to trap food in the same way a feather duster will.

So it's safe to have it in there? Or do I have to remove it?!

100% safe.

They are beneficial water polishers, just like any other serpulid worm. Their iridescent ciliates add a bit of colour as well.

Sorry I didn't specify why I had removed mine because as others have said, it's safe. Mine was relocated because of a coral vs worm issue. They can irritate encrusting corals, but 99% of the time it's harmless. I just wish I had taken pictures to show.
