-I have a 72g tank with a 50g sump. In the sump I will be running a Klaes junior skimmer with a mag12 pump (valve on pressure side to adjust pump pressure).
-72 gallon is drilled, with corner box (done by Reef Gallery).
-
--I am wondering what would restrict the amount of water I can put in my sump...I am assuming it would have to be lower than the collection cup of the skimmer so that I can remove the cup...but maybe it has to be just below the top of the cup so water doesn't drain into the cup.
-
--Any suggestions on minimum and maximum sump level (aside from the height of the sump) would be appreciated. I plan to keep some liverock in the sump and have part of it sectioned off as a refugium.

Thanks,

Michael

The biggest thing that you need to keep in mind is how much water will drain back when your return pump is shut off. If 10 gallons worth of water is going to drain back make sure you leave enough for that in your sump.
Aftr thats looked taken care you can set your water level anywhere you want.

What he said. Get everything plumbed in and runing, skimmmer etc.. everything. Then unplug the whole system and let it sit till there is no water moving anywhere. Now you determine how much room you want for a saftey in the sump. I ussualy give it an inch from the top after everything has settled.

Fill the sump up to this level with everything turned off.

Now turn everything back on. Wait till everything has been running for a while.. say 15 mninutes or so so that the system has reached a steady state. Take a marker or a piece of tape or something and mark waht the water level is in the sump. You now know what level you can fill to when you do your top offs etc. As long as you don't fill above the line your system shouldn't overflow thru the sump in the event of a power outage.
