Well Guys I've finally jumped into the '90's and bought a PC for home. Now I need a Digital Camera. What's a good 2 meg camera that has some decent bells and whistles but isn't going to cost a fortune. I'd like to keep it under $450 and have a minimium of a 3x optcal zoom. So far I've been looking at Canon line because I already have a Canon SLR that I really like. Any reccomendations?

Cameras i would suggest and i have used would be listed below.. and they are in your range.. the one thing you need to keep in mind.. if you are going to be photographing your tank and fish are to make the camera you have has..

Macro
Fast shutter speeds
manual adjustable White balance.

now for cameras in your range i would suggest..

Fuji Finepix 2650 2MP Digital Camera
Olympus D-520 2MP Digital Camera

But if you want a great camera.. pick up anything made by Nikon.. there coolpix 5000 is really nice.. Pricey.. but nice.

Kenzy, I vote for Fuji Finepix 2800, it's 2.0MP with 6X optical zoom & 2.5x digital zoom, one of the best for it's price and performance.
I personally like SLR style body which this model has verses point & shoot body style also has macro capability with white balace control & manual adjustments. Check out the specs...

Agreed AMAZING Camera ... Little more then you wanted to spend.. But really just like buying a skimmer in this hobby.. Why would want spend less and have to buy another on later on.. , So just buy a bigger and better one now.. so you dont have to later on!

Damn that is a great looking camera! I totally agree with you on getting it right the first time.

Thanks Red-Sea I looked at the camera compare page of the site you gave and if that's in CDN$ then its still in my price range. I low balled my numbers a bit thinking some one would show me a gotta have camera for a bit higher. :D

OK on Monday I'll be out price shopping locally, if that fails is there anywhere on line that I can find the FP 2800 Zoom online preferibally(can't spell worth a *** tonight) in Canada? It doesn't show up on the FutureShop.ca web site.

Thanks guys!

Thanks guys, after looking a couple of other camera's I kept coming back to the FP 2800. I'll post some pics of the tank in a couple of days once I get this fixed RC Thread (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=220883)

I just hope the ballast isn't fried.

Ya I went with the FP 2800 Zoom. Problem is that it has been discontinued by Fugi. I looked at quite a few in that price range and felt the FP 2800 is what I wanted. Most the local camera shops no longer carried it so I had a choice of something else or going with the FP3800 Zoom. Which is virtuely the same camera except its a 3meg camera and $650. After himming and hahing awhile I went back to one of the first shops I was in and the guy I had been talking earlier finally broke down and told me that Costco still had some in stock For $449. So off I went.
There's alot to learn on it, but I think it's worth it. I know for the type of pics I'll be taking, I'd never really need a 3+meg camera since I still have a fairly new, good Canon SLR

Brad, glad you like the FP2800, you made the right choice & you won't be disapointed with it's performance & quality.
I'm looking for the FP3800 myself, since I droped & broke my Nikon Coolpix...

Ouch that's going to hurt the wallet!

It's a nifty little sucker! I'm still learning to use all the different features. Once I get my lights sorted out I put up some pics, although nothing really exciting yet.
