View Full Version : What is this coming from my brain?

Several times we have seen this spagehtti looking stuff coming out the top of my brain. After a day of so it would go back in. Yesterday, we had a stomatella snail "passing away" about 1" from the brain. At one point I looked into the tank and noticed that it had died. An hour later I looked in again and noticed this stuff coming from the underneath of the brain and wrapped around the body of dead snail. Went by again 1'2 hour later and there was nothing left of the body and the "stuff" was pulling back in. Then....(bare with me) again before turning off the lights, I noticed this stuff coming out in all directions from underneath the brain. The brain itself was not stressed at all. It looked like a big pile of spagehtti. So, because I was so curious after an hour of the lights being off we took a flashlight to the tank and noticed what you see in the picture. You may not be able to tell but the spagehtti appearance seems to be the edge of this clear "skin" like thing.

So, is this some sort of feeder thing (which I am asuming) but have not come across this type of thing before - it is definately not a tenticle becuse it is all one piece. I should also mention that when we turned on the lights this morning it shriveled back up to underneath the brain.

What I am pointing out is the white stuff that is stuck to the glass. This is what I am trying to ID.

the white stuff looks like snail eggs, don't think it's coming from the brain

Are the thicker threads sort of connected together by some kind of film? This looks a lot like what my fuzzy mushroom threatens to spit out when it's not happy (usually if it's been stepped on by my shrimp or something). I'd like to know was well since I'm thinking of getting a brain in the future... as a substitue...:giggle:

yes it is. Good to know, so it is like a defense thing/I am unhappy about something type of thing.
