I think it's closed up becuase I only just acquired it yesterday and it was recieved from Bali the day before that. I did a freshwater dip before sticking it in the tank.

I'm not really sure why I didn't pluck that thing off in the first place .. I can't now because the polyps are open.

.....sometimes intrigue gets the better of us.
Tweeze it, and stick it in a mason jar, then you can observe it.

I never got around to tweezing that thing off as I've been busy with other tank related problems.
But, here's some eye candy

I found the same hitchhikers as described in this thread. http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=21800
I asked around - could be pryamid snail eggs, flatworm type, etc.; however, nothing definitive IMHO.
I gave my zoa rock a few freshwater dips but these pyramids' points are sharp and do not fall off easily. Unable to identify from my research, I just took the large zoa rock out and got the pyramids out with tweezers and magnifying glass. I examined each polyp (mouth, skirt, stem), under the rock, between the rock crevices, etc. At the end of the examination, I retrieved over 40 of these pyramids (varying sizes) and one sundial snail (bad for zoas!).
Hmmm ... Now I wonder if the sundial snail is a clue. It would still be great to get a definitive ID.

Don't mean to be rude....but I have a question about Zoa shipments.
a. What is the 'normal' dimension/size of a Zoa rock (eg. S, M or L)
b. are they in usually in Full colony...meaning totally covering the rock &
C. what's the price range like (Caribbean, Indo etc.)
I'm always the last one to view any Zoa shipments regardless. Family commitment...
Thanks.

Interesting, thanks for the link Mortigas (btw it doesn't work but .. http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=21800)
I'll have to pull the colony and get at it with some tweezers and probably knock off a few frags while I'm at it. I also want to separate those large sand polyps (?) from the zoos.
Paul, I think prices vary depending on how nice the shipment is. Last two zoa shipments at WTR were priced in small/medium/large type ranging form 40 to 80 if I recall correctly though I think this last one was priced according to the polyps in question. I'm not really sure because I just picked out this particular colony, asked for a price and I was on my way. Ryan seems to give pretty consistent pricing to everyone which is welcome in my opinion. Many of the zoos were still not open and I couldn't wait around anymore, this one had just begun to open and I liked the looks of it. Rough estimate there are about 30 to 40 polyps on the whole thing and I paid 50 bucks. I don't mind talking about prices, seems it's a taboo for some reason though.
edit: according to the first pic I posted there are more than 40 polyps and that picture doesn't show them all. I would call it a medium colony based on my experience, I feel I paid a fair price for it too.

SMP, I tried the link again with MS IE and Netscape. I did not have any problem with it.
Paul, that particular large zoa rock I got was from Reef Raft's Grand Opening. I was one of the first customers in the new store. The zoa rock was about 2-3 lbs, covered with over 100 polyps (3 different kinds), and paid $40. A rare treat indeed!
