Just wondering if there is anything special I should do when disposing of used metal halide bulbs. Should the bulbs be considered as hazardous material or can they be thrown out with the regular trash?
Please tell me how you dispose of yours.. :)

I place mine back in the packaging and toss in the trash. You can't put them in the recycling as they may explode if broken.

Thanks Kev. I do the same thing. How much pressure are we talking about here? Say for instance I drop the garbage bag and the bulb breaks. How explosive is it? Anyone experience this and live to talk about it? ;)

i believe that all light bulbs should be dropped off at your local recycling facility, not only are the bulbs prone to having a minor explosoion, it's components are hazardous materials and should be disposed properly.

as a side note, this what we've done for our normal flourescent bulbs, not sure it is different for MH bulbs but i figure, my father in law works for the hydro and he recommends that we dispose of it properly

They make a nice popping sound... of course, do it right and dispose of them properly...

I dispose of them as hazardous material as MH bulbs contain mercury (Hg)and other exotic rare earth elements.

I sell mine in the classifieds as "lightly used".
... that's a joke.
