I know this should be in another section, but I need options fast before I spend big money. My R/O unit is whacked. I've been fighting Cyno, and Nitrates over the last month so I finally checked the water supply. I have a KENT RO50TFCCL unit 50 Gal a day with a DI chamber on the out put. Do I need to replace the membrain ?
Here are the TSD readings
Pre unit = 142
Post 1 Micron and carbon = 135
Post membrain = 99
Post DI = 90
I know the DI is dead, but it only lasted 3 weeks! All it ran was the auto top off. No large water changes.

Thanks
Scott.

If your post membrane is 90, then your unit is gone.. Make sure your TDS meter is accurate.

Thats terrible.
RO should be bringing you down to around 14, and then the DI should get you to zero or so.
Sounds like you need new everything. With such high TDS hitting your DI unit, it will plug up and die much faster than if it was only getting the 14 or so TDS it should be getting.
Definitly at least get a new RO.

Thanks for all the input, I did go out yesterday to ORG and purchased a new Purely H2O unit 70 Gal a day. The cost was almost the same as replacing the membrane and DI cartridge. The new unit is up and running Post Membrane in 5 and post DI 0.

Thanks again.

Replacing the whole unit proved to be a good thing.
It unusual for a unit to go that far off in just 3 weeks, assuming it was new. Unless the water source is really bad or extremely hard.
Check all the connection to make sure things are travelling in all the right direction, make sure the filters are seated as they are suppose to be in the filter chambers.
A RO filter membrane run from $60 and up should last a few years.
If the membrane don't last ,no way the DI will last.
Check the old RO unit and put it in classified maybe someone else can do something with it.

Hi, I should have been more clear. The R/O unit was new, and only started Jan / 28/ 06, but purchased back in Summer 04. I've been through 4 DI filters in that time. I feed the unit off my water softener. I opened the old membrane chamber, and found what looked like a black / grease mark. It would not wash off. I checked around, and the new membrane was $ 189.99.
Hello new unit!
