My wife and I were out for brunch today (Sun). Towards the end of the meal she realized they had mussels. Well she had to have one. When she scooped out the meat and popped it in her mouth, she felt something hard and pulled out this little crab.
Now the strange thing is the crab couldn't be seen. The mussel looked totally normal, all cooked, seasoned, and served on the half shell. Other than missing a leg, it's totally intact. I'm not sure what it's original colour is but it's orange and white now. Very interesting markings on it too. I had to bring it home and try to identify it.
Anyone seen one of these before or ever had this happen?

Totally Bizaar situation Mugster. Don't know what it is and it has never happened to me. All I can offer is that a shell fish that is greenish brown will turn red in a steamer.

That is a totally wild story Kev. It must have freaked your wife out abit
i wonder how it stayed in one piece.?
I was sitting down the other night at The Rocky Crest Golf course after a golf tournament about to dig in to a fantastic hawian buffet, you know the type, roast pig on a spit, fire dancers, endless muzzels, lobster crab, oysters etc and i suddenly felt squimmish and i never have when faced with sea food before. I had my whole table in tears of laughter when i said " These babies could have gone in my tank".
Ah well. The lobster, crab, sword fish etc tasted good but i did not get the chance to come out like you Kev, they did not hide one surprise in my shells, i feel kinda ripped,
