I am looking to replace my Little Giant 3 with a more powerful pump. I like the L.G. it is fairly quiet and has been dead solid reliable. My problem is due to be a newbie when I did my plumbing for my sump I put in too many 90's. Too late to change that now but I can get a bigger pump. Any suggestions as to a good pump. I was thinking maybe a L.G. 4 or a Barracuda..

Due to being a powerful pump + TEFC (Total Enclosed, Fan Cooled) - they are not dead-silent...though are still very quiet.

If you need dead-silent ~ Look into the Velocity series of pumps.

Good luck,

Being completely silent isn't a must as I have my sump in another room from my tank, separated by drywall.

Eheim 1250 or 1260 - both silent and dependable as heck.

In that case go with the Barracuda. It's pressure rated and puts out 4600gph. More than enough to keep your tank moving and feed a fuge, Ca reactor, etc...

I was leaning towards the highest GPH I could find, as the plumbing is very amateur and there is about 6' from pump to DT. I also made a pair of DIY spraybars as returns to help keep the detritus off the rocks on the back side of the reef. Unfortunately with the smaller pump that I have now they are not very effective. Now just off to find a good price on a pump..

Thanks for the input guys..
