I noticed some brown algae growing on my LR. Its about the size of a quarter and they are in patches. On a LR the size of a football, I saw about 4-5 of these quarter size patches. I used my finger to scrap them off and they feel like sheets of brown algae. What could they be?
Sorry no pics, geez...I think I gotta put a digicam as one of my xmas lists...Whats a good digicam for reef taking?

Hi,
This sounds familiar....you may want to check some of the bigger boards but I don't think this is a good sign (I may be wrong...but check anyway).
There is a brown flake algae that is only removable through external means. Very very very few animals will eat it. I have heard entire tanks covered with it...and the only way they could solve it was with a siphon or a toothbrush.

Did some surfing on the net and found this picture of what my algae looks like..
