Cycling Tank

My tank been cycling for 5 days now.I got 3 shrimp from the market to help the cycle along.My question is i've noticed that my water has a real bad smell,should this happen while its going throught the cycle?:confused: Plus i have a few pieces of live rock in the tank also,that had a few snails on it when i bought it.:fish: :help: Any input would be much appricated.

Sounds like you may have some curing rocks.
The smell could be die off on the rocks. Where are the snails that you said were on the rocks?
Are they still alive or are they rotting somewhere in your tank.

Keep an eye on your params. As long as they are normal then just be patient. I wouldn't add anything to the tank right now.
Give things some time for the system to settle.

Learn from my mistake and dont rush into anything.
Take this time and read read read.

What type of shrimp did you put in there and how are they doing?

The snails are on the LR and there alive,the LR that i bought seemed to be cured,as it had lots of purple and red on it.The thing that P.....s me off is that the sand is getting into my filter and grinding my propeller:confused: Should i clean it out,or will that screw up the cycle?As for the shrimp there just in a corner and are real soggy(i just put them in there to help the cycle)Should i turn on my Skimmer?:angry: Any input would be much appricated:cheers:

Hey, you could clean out the impeler area atc. I would leave any floss un cleaned and in some salt water while you clean the rest of it, that is if the tank has been up for more than a few days. the benifical bacteria that helps cycle the tank live in many places, such as the filter floss. If you rinse, or replace it you will in esscence be loosing some of your cycling ability for awhile. The smell is probably the rotting shrimp etc. I would have started with one shrimp and added another a week later or so. I have cycled my tanks by just adding a bit of flake food every day.
