I have a 29 Gallon Freshwater tank that I am slowly converting to Saltwater. Mostly I have just been researching and have heard alot of different opinions. After reading everyone's post I have slowly started to purchase the items I need, i.e. skimmer, powerheads, mastertest kit. I am now at the point of spending money on lighting and was thinking of buying Coralife 30" 2X65 Watt Aqualight.

Will this be enough lighting to support a reef in the tank?

I have been told that this will not be enough to support a clam if I eventually wanted one.

I could possible want in the tank Anemone, Shrimp, mushroom, zoo, brain, ricordia, and maybe a clam down the road.

Another option was a MH/PC Coralife 24" but this is almost 2.5 times more expensive $469 vs $189 which seems like a large investment in light of the fact I have no idea what I am doing yet

Some sort of chart outlining tank size, lighting requirement for specific coral would be helpful at this point and sorry to ask a question that has been probably asked a zillion times but seemed like the right time.

Thank you,

If you want to keep a clam or an anenome I would recommend going with a MH light! If you can't afford a new one yet either wait and save up or keep your eye on the classifieds here for a used light as there is always some good bargains to be had there.

Also I see in the classifieds Steve has his T5's for sale which are better than PC's for a pretty good price!

I have the 2 x 65w coralife and I'm semi happy with it.. Originaly gettign into the hobby i thought 90w for my tank would be more than enough juice..... guy at the store recomended to go for the 130w total power and i did.. I thought this would blow my tank away thinking it would be so bright etc......... the result is that the light is sufficient to grow softies... but if i knew everything i know today when i was getting lighting i would have gone straight for MH and do atleast 250w over my 20gallon....
eventually this will happen where my 2x65w will get replaced with a nice MH fixture. My recomendation for out up front rather than few months down the road u decide u want a clam or somethign and need MH next thing you know it's 189 + $300-$500 for MH

I searched but no find....so here goes.

I have 2 aor as220 vho ballasts. im wanting to wire them to 2 65w cf bulbs. is that possible? the ballast runs upto 2 4' vho bulbs. icecap does it but i dont know if i should do this.

I really dislike the pink violet color from the uri vho's.
