while visiting a local fish store wich will go un named I had this conversation with an employee

All names have been changed to protect the guilty

ME - are those seahorses captive bred or wild caught?

Tall Vals employee - Wild caught of coarse. You cant get bred ones.

ME - Oh, I have heard of some places that breed them

Tall Vals employee - never heard of that

ME - Yeah...one is in the states I think. Ocean riders, I think

Tall Vals employee - laugh....they are right beside the ocean. there idea of captive bred are taking them out of the ocean...laugh

ME - Oh, I thought they were actually breeding them

Tall Vals employee - Nope it cant be done...as a matter of fact, we got a couple in and one gave birth. I took them home and called all the other Tall Vals to get some advise on raising them. Everyone I know in the industry, couldn't help me. It just cant be done. They all died in a few days.

I lost interest in his BS after that. It was amusing for awhile. I didn't say anything to him because Im not an expert in them either but Damn

My LFS , Enormous Alfred's, Mississauga, has some regular staff who are really knowledgeable about seahorses. They are sourcing a supply of Captive Bred S/horses.
They say this is the last year they will be bringing in the W.C.

There is light at the end of the tunnel

Wow,
When did they start breeding sea horses?
That's awesome, before you know it they'll be breeding clownfishes and Dottybacks. What's next??? Freshwater?????

He didn't happen to mention any great strides in under gravel filters did he? I'm thinking of upgrading to some new fancy bio thingys, balls or sum such nonsense.
