I went over to this guys house and picked up this ? softie.
In his tank under NO it was a whitish coulor. Nice and fully extended. At first I thought it was some sort of SPS.
Under my VHO's it is very pink.
Do you think this coral was dyed?
What is it exactly is it
I paid 50 bucks for it.
I love the shape of it, so even if the colour does go I wont feel that ticked off, It just bothers me that I am seeing more and more dyed soft corals.
Might even bother even more knowing I may have just purchased one
Take note, this was just put in the tank so it is not fully extended

How big is that REEFIN GEEK? it looks real nice.. I think that would cost more than 50.00 out here.

You say this is a soft coral?
It sure looks like an SPS coral!
If it is actually soft, two possible corals come to mind, one would be a leather in the same family as devils hand etc but I have never seen one exactly like that. The other would be a colt. I have seen a couple of colts in colours other then the typical browns and this does look like a heavly contracted colt. I would have to say if it is one of the abnormal colt strains, it was a great buy. Your only problem now is if it will take to your tank with the change in lighting etc..

as for being a dyed coral..well i have chatted with a few people i know in the lfs business and the say that there are lots of dyed corals now on the market.. especially the ones from indonesia..
one told me that they put what they thought was a really nice coloured coral in one of their tanks..and next day the tank had a
pinkish tint to it....hmmmm wonder want that was...??
well i guess you can never be sure.. but it is common place now for corals to be dyed...so i am told..
that is my 2 cents worth..but i can not tell you yes or know if the one in the pic is dyed..

Another fine argument for the propagation and trading of Tank Raised Corals!!
If you think it's bad getting dyed corals now, just wait a few more years when it becomes difficult to get some corals at all!
