Hi all:
Another question if I may.
We are making our own protein skimmer according to some DIY diagrams.
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to bond the acrylic pipe?
My husband used methyl......"something" the first time--and we are wondering if there is anywhere in the Oshawa area we can get our hands on some of this solvent.
Or is there a better way to bond acrylic?

Weldon 16 is made for your application. I think the Building Box may carry it (not 100% sure)

DIY Protein skimmer? what type? where did you get the materials?
Now that that burst of curiosity has been expelled, the closest place that I know of (to Oshawa) is Warehoused Plastic Sales, located in Scarborough.

Daniel hit the nail on the head!:D
Weldon 16 will bond the acrylic in seconds.....I use it on every DIY project.

Weldon 16 does do a good job especially if the acrylic you are joining is a little rough or not entirely flat (it gap fills well). If your cuts are well done and smooth, use weldon #3 (for extruded) or weldon #4 (for cast).

Weldon 16 is thicker so it hides bubbles better and seals bad cuts, the problem is that it is week when compared to weldon 3 or 4. I use weldon 4 for everything cast and extruded, it is a tiny bit thicker than 3 but still runs like water and it does a lot nicer job than 3 in my opinion.
so basicly use 4 for your gluing unless you have bad finnishes on your cuts and need something thicker to seal it.. in that case I would go to a two part like Weldon 40 instead of 16 as it will be a lot stronger. 16 is best suited for bonding different types of plastic.. say acrylic to pvc
