I'm hoping someone has knowledge or experience with this. I am plumbing a 90g that is on the main level and the sump and refugium is in the basement. The pump that I'm using has 1/2" output, question is I've run it with 3/4" hose on my old 30g and was wondering if I lost output, is it better to run 1/2" hose? I'm looking to achieve maximum flow.

Always keep your outlet the same.
what happens when you change your hose diameter :
if you make it smaller youll get more pressure and less volume
If you increase diameter youll get more volume but less pressure
by changeing the diamater you wont hurt the pump if your using a centrifugal pump, Ex: little giant any pump with an impellar
Hope this helps

so going by what you have said increasing the size of the plumbing will increase the volume of flow, this is a good thing.

Either way yo plumb it, you'll need to make sure the pump has the required GPM at the particular head you'll be running.
Vertical head loss on my sytem is close to 11 feet alone. Rule of thumb is to add a foot for every 90 degree bend and 1/2 a foot for every 45.
