By red base anemone do you mean heteractis magnifica (riteri) anemone? If so, then yes I beleive it will host in that without any problems. However, do you realize that this is one of if not the largest growing of all the anemone species? Although they are certainly wonderful specimens I would do more research before adding one to your tank, as from what I read they are difficulty to keep healthy/thriving in a reef aquarium. Perhaps someone with first hand experience in the husbandry of this animal could chime in.

If you want some info on keeping a Ritteri Anemone talk to Sohal_Tang on the forum here. He's been keeping one for quite some time now.
The relationship between these clown fish and their host anemone is an example of symbiosis. There are almost 1000 species of sea anemones in the ocean, but only 10 are host to anemone fishes. This Ritteri Anemone can grow to over three feet in diameter in the wild.
Each of the anemone tentacles contain stinging cells called nematocysts, which will sting corals and fish on contact. Clown fish have a special mucus layer on them that prevents them from being stung, and allows them to hide among the tentacles of the anemone and avoid predators.
The Ritteri Anemone requires strong lighting and may move around, seeking the ideal lighting conditions.

I think you mean Long Tentacle anemone (Macrodactyla Doreensis). If this is the case, Clarkii, pink skunk, and Chrysogaster clowns are the only true symbients of the clownfish.
Domino damsels will live symbiotically with them when they are juveniles.

I don't think he's talking about any of those. He's talking about the one BA had special for this week, for 14.88. I don't think anybody is going to sell any of the common hosting anemone for that price but of course I can be wrong. ;-D
So anybody know what the redbase anemone iis afterall? LOL I certainly hope it's M.Doreenis but I highly doubt it.

I don't know about Oakville, but I am sure the ones they labelled at BA Kennedy are not bubble tip, they are some kind of rock flower anemone.
Are you talking about those white (bleached) bubbletip?

Looks the same in Hamilton's BA.
I got it (Sebae Anemone - Heteractis Malu) from BA a while ago and it supposed to be a yellow base anemone (BA's name). My clowns love it!

I don't think that power compacts will be enough for anemone, but let's wait for someone to confirm...

sure if it's a 10" tank and the anemone are tank-raised, maybe it's okay :D
And if you ask most ppl, they are gonna tell you you shouldn't put an anemone in a relatively new tank also. But I am not going into the teaching mode on this one.

Recent studies have determined that anemones can be kept in low light as long as they are adequately target fed. You still may not be equipped to feed the anemone as much as it needs.

hahahhaha welcome to the world of wipe off LOL that BA seems to be one of the worst around GTA in terms of fair pricing. The only thing that seems to be good for that one is that they do price matching with J&L, I am not sure how real that statement is as it is not my personal experience LOL.

I've recently purchased a red base BTA with neon green tips. I have a 130 watt light over my 29 - is this good enough, it is the 65 watt 10,000K daylight and the 65 watt True Blue Actnic, the Lunar Coral Life 30 inch. I purchased it and it seemed to be enlarging during the first night - now it is shrivled up and moved below some old dead spiney coral I have in my tank and appears to be inflating in the middle and has expell some waste, my water tests out at 8.0 PH, 1.023 sal, 0 pp am, 0 nit, not sure what to expect but figure I'll have to watch him close to see if it will start melting.

Well I pulled my red base neon green BTA out of my tank this morning as he had already made my tank cloudy enough (may of been dead as of yesterday) lots of poop and inflated mouth, also white substance surrounding his foot, made my tank that is usually perfectly clear pretty cloudly (about 70% visability) - I guess the reason for the post is to determine what may have caused it - does general hardness (KH) affect anemones and can increases in the KH cause anemones to die? Only thing that changes in the tank was the increase in KH, the kit I have to test with states somewhere in the range of 120mg for the KH, mine was like 180, I increased it in the tank since I normally keep the alkalinity at 11, and it had dropped to 9 or so (did so because a Pep shrimp died and I thought it was due to the Alk). The BTA's first day in he laid on his side the most part of the day and toward the end of it started inflating and filling out and looked really good - I increased the ALK that night when I went to bed and the next morning he was completely deflated and pooping, although I am not sure what the 180mg in KH equals in Alkalinity - if you can decifer all of this jazz I just wrote please let me know - any help, input would be great, the LFS I have is going replace the 50 dollars BTA with another one and I wanna ensure my water is set to go when I get him at the end of the week (thank god my LFS is cool - the manager, not the owner that is)

Not that anyone cares too much, but my LFS honored his word and I went back a week ago and he gave me a long green tectacle anemone that is the size of a softball (much bigger than the last one) - and I have had him in there for about a week and just attempted to fed him last night (had the silverside but it slipped out of his grasp when he was trying to eat it). For anyone who may have read this thread I am assuming that it was my change in ALK and I must have increased it too quickly for the anemones liking. The one I have now is doing great and looks real good - i'll post a pic later.
As far as the silver sides, I only pulled one out of the bag I bought which equaled a very thin inch and stuck it to a wooden skew from him to take it from me. My question is that the small silver side he didn't eat - should I remove them or is it alright to let it flot around and have the other creatures have at it?
Do you just feed one silverside or mutiple ones? If anyone has a long tect any input would be nice.
Thanks!

Try feeding a variety of foods such as scallops, shrimp, krill, and squid. Start with small pieces until it aquires a taste for each food type.
