Let me just give everyone some background info and tank specs.
Fisrt off my experience with freshwater aquariums started fairly early. As I was growing up my brother had 10 tanks going in our basement. They were all fresh water. He had guppies to piranahs. I had 1 30 gallon, with 1 pike cichalid.
I then got a 100 gallon wich contained 2 albino oscars. Paid $60.00 for the pair wich were the size of a toonie.
That tank went , soon after I got married ( the oscars by the way were over 12 inches long at that time)
I then fell in love with photography. Over 8 years went by and it was time to make a choice. Spend big and go big or sell it all and get out of it. Well I made a choice that I really did not want to make, and I sold it off. I still am trying to sell prints of my wildlife/landscape shots but no more shooting.
I needed a hobby.
The wife and I have allways liked saltwater tanks and her brother had one in his room.
He convinced us that we could do it so we did.
I found a used 65 gallon in the paper and purchased it.
Great deal, only $300.00 for everything (wife happy).
Well after swithching the lighting to VHO, a new sump, new Mag 7 return pump, new skimmer, 3 new Maxi 1200 powerheads and wavestrip it wasn't such a great deal (wife not happy)
not to mention the ph meter, chemicals, switch from CC to live sand ...yada yada yada
So here I am today. Painfully broke, but still married
:D
Our tank is comming up to it's first birthday and doing fine.
I strive to learn more about this hobby everyday, and I read alot of material. I do not claim to know it all, because I dont. I have and will continue to ask what some may concieve as very stupid ?'s but you all know what they say about that.
Let's just try to help everyone out as much as possible. Our tanks will love us for that.
