I'm looking for a safe, relatively inexpensive way to maintain calcium levels while learning about building a calcium reactor. I've read about Mrs Wages pickling lime being used - anyone know where this (or something equivalent) can be found in Ontario?

i couldn't find pickling lime in ontario. I have heard of people usinf lime intended for agricultural uses, but i am not sure what the quality is or where they obtained it.

Even Those little bottles of Kent Kalkawasser powder will last you a few months... And the medium ones are only $20 or so.
Just try them.

I used to use analytical grade calcium hydroxide form Fisher Scientific. It was fairly expensive but not too much more than Kent's. I found it interesting that the analytical grade while not completely pure (shows analysis on side of bottle) was completely snow white. When I switched to the Kent product, in comparison it appeared gray. I wish Kent would supply analytical breakdown of the product so you could know how much contaminants were in it. I suspect that it is of very low quality compared to reagent or analytical grade calcium hydroxide and yet it is not inexpensive.
