I'm building a new stand & canopy for my tank and using a 3/4"Maple plywood, I was wondering what kind & brand of sealer
I should use to protect the wood from water & moisture but I like the natural color of the Maple so I don't want to use stain or varnish to cover it up, it may change the color.
All suggestions are welcome...

I used and Miniwax Indoor/outdoor helmsman spar urethane (Home depot) for my cap. So far no problems. If you get the clear, semi gloss, or satin it should be okay. You may want to buy a small can (they come in 236ml) and try on a sample or inside the stand were no one see's it. (Just to see if it's okay). The only other stuff would be a wood oil like Behr Scandinavian interior/exterior tung oil natural clear (Home depot). The only problem with using oil's is that you may have to reapply it once in a while

I went to home depot but couldn't find any Miniwax spar, but they had a Behr super spar that I picked up it says for use indoors/outdoors & boats it's a clear satin finish.
Seems like a good product, any comment on this varnish???

Red, I have made quite a few canopys and cabinets in the last year. I usually make them from oak (ply) and have found that even though the stain says "clear" there is always a yellow tinge to it. I have tried several brands and they all do colour the wood a little.
Remember, several coats (at least three) with a light sanding inbetween coats and you should end up with a beautiful finish:D
