My new hammer coral was releasing some stringy brown/clear stuff tonight. About 5/6 strands.
What is it doing?

Has it been looking fine before this?
If yes, it could be just wastes..

Hi,
This is normal for a new coral. It could be adjusting to the new lighting in your tank (most like...adjusting to the brighter lights) Provide some circulation to the coral such that the stringy is blown away. Try not to disturb the coral while it is adjusting...it gives the coral unnecessary stress. Give it a couple of days. Watch the coral carefully for brown slime disease as it adjusts.
Within a week...it should be happy and fully extended. IMHO, this is the most difficult part of keeping LPS. Once it is acclimated to your tank, you should be able to keep it for years and years.
Hope that helps.

Hi, my frogspawn lets fly some of the same stuff you are describing if I accidentally hit it with something,( cleaning the glass, etc..) It must be due to stress. It always seems fine afterwards tho.

Hey Reefin Geek: Don't worry about those brown strands. Sounds like your hammer is stressed and is releasing some zooxanthellae. Let it acclimate to your tank.It should be OK.

Dropped by REEFINGEEKS Saturday night and had a look. It looks fine, I suspect it was just acclimatization jitters :)
BTW, REEFINGEEK's tank looks better in person than the pic he has posted in the other thread. Good job, Dude.

Completely normal IMO. I have had a hammer for over a year, and every few weeks it seems to spew out a few strands of something. Never seems to hard it.
