I am considering the Aquasafe R/O unit on ebay but I don’t know a lot about R/O and I have a couple of questions. First of all do the standard membranes filter out phosphates, silicates and cholrine or does that require a special membrane? And if so how well? Second when time to replace the filters can they be replaced by any type of filter that fits the canister or do they only work with the filters included? Thanks a lot for you help and time. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I have one and I think it is the best bang for your buck. The sediment filters remove the solids the RO membrane will remove chemicals though osmosis. The filthers are all standard commercial filthers and membranes. If I had my time back I would have bought the extra one from them and saved the shipping cost.

How much are you planning on spending on this unit?

Thanks for the info. I hope to keep it under $200 for everything and it looks like the price on the Aquasafe will be hard to beat. I just don't want to get something and find out it is not good enough and then have to spend even more.

I just buy an Aquasafe Maximus RODI unit, and I did encounter some problems with the setup and things DOA. Currently resolving the issues with them now, hopefully it can be solve fast. If you do order from them, DO NOT order direct just to save a few $ in shipping because you can be protected by eBay buyer's protection program which you might need. There are alot of people that are happy with their aquasafe but for one thing, do expect the joints to leak and prepare to use plastic to seal it (it's actually written as part of their installation manual.....). Hopefully the customer service is as good as some other people said and my problems can be resolved.
<< Deleted the part about my friend getting it from Pure H2O, just confirmed with him that he has not install it yet ... no wonder trouble free for now LOL ... update comments later when installed >>
good luck, vapo

I've had an aquasafe for 8 months and tried flushing the flow restrictor a few weeks ago. Since then the unit keeps dripping constantly, especially after using it. Also, I have sent 4 emails to the aquasafe customer service and they have not responded with how to fix the leaks. I have a big tray under the unit that I empty several times a day.
What method did you use to seal the leaks and how did it work?
Thanks.

I think the biggest leak is where the input line goes into the flow restrictor.
I will try the teflon tape.
Do you know if teflon paste is any better or not as good?
Thanks much.

Have you tried pushing the line back into the flow restrictor yet? Sometimes they slip out a bit and pushing the line back in helps.

Okay I will try that tomorrow when it's light.

That will work where ever the lines go into a fitting, mine leaked in 3-4 places but I pushed the lines back in and the leaking stopped. Good luck.

I don't recommend the epoxy sealers. Use teflon tape. It's cheap, easy to apply, and comes off if you need to remove it.

Thanks much.
I will stay away from epoxy, and use teflon tape.

The leak was coming from the large, next to last connection on the flow restrictor.
The connection was so loose that I don't know how it could not have been leaking. I wrapped teflon tape around it a half dozen times and it was still loose, so I wrapped it around another half dozen times and then it was moderately snug. This stopped it from leaking.
Now the line at the end was still dripping, which is not supposed to happen. I took it out a few times and shoved it back in but it kept dripping. Then I noticed the line had a lot of scratches on it that looked like they came from pliers. I cut off 1/2 inch from the end of the line, shoved it back in and this time the leak stopped.
Yippee!
The only thing now is that I screwed the large fitting in so far that the flow restrictor will not open to flush. However that's not a problem really. If I want to flush it then I will have to take off the end and undo the fitting again. Maybe I will get around to that but the priority is that the leaking has stopped.
Thanks for your comments in helping to solve this.
