What's the correct order: live rock/sand then cleanup crew then adding your fish or add the cleanup crew last? What's best for all concerned??

Thanks for the welcome and great thread BTW.

However, I think it just misses on the answer I was seeking.

I think what I was getting at was, should you establish a healthy population of detrivores prior to stocking with fish or proportionately add them as your tank becomes established and the stocking levels rise.

Or is it six of one, half dozen of the other??

My opinion would be to stock your sand bed with critters AS your fish population grows. This way you are providing enough food for the critters and not over-populating.

I'm sure that others will have opinions too...this is only MY personal opinion based on personal experience.

I agree, if you put a zillion critters in there with no fish they wont have enough detrius etc to live on and might end up killing each other. I guess I'm thinking of hermits and shrimps, now snails I dont think it would matter too much, but even then, you dont want to overpopulate...

Excuse the cliché :)

I was leaning toward the opinions you guys offered. As the tank gets established, you can (usually) add to keep up with the detritus load without having some of the detrivores go hungry and die off.

Thanks for the input! :)
