Hi
I was wondering what anyone that is using this ballast has used for wiring and endcaps. I see a thread on Canreef that one person has used the coralife endcaps and wiring. The only thing is that it says on the package that they are not to be used for VHO. Any help would be great

Jim, I wouldn't touch Coralife endcaps simply because their not design for VHO bulbs & will melt within a month or two, The best endcaps you can purchase are IceCap & BJB, IceCap's are made in Italy with very high impact resistant Pvc & BJB are made in Germany with same high quality, these are the only two that every aquarist use without any problems but expect to pay $30.00 range for a pair at LFS, the best thing is to order from online mail order they run about $16-$17 pair.
Here is a link you can check it out & order as well...

the person in question is me.. I have been running the coralife endcaps on VHO at FULL power (not IceCap power  ) for 6 months now and all 4 sets are fine ( I ran them for 3 years befor on VHO ) . The problem comest to play with heat.. if you are getting to hot in your hood then yes they will fail but if your hood is getting that hot you have other problems ;) ) as for the best quality ones.. it isn't the IceCap it is actualy a all weather one made for fridge units and outdoor signs.. if you see one of these beside a IceCap one you will see what I mean.. all aluminum construction, triple weather seals ect... but I think they are a little more pricy.

If you even want to save money you could take regular socket
2$ at hardware store
I use them for many years with VHO without any problem and I realy dont see the need to buy expensive encap they even IMO
made the fluo heat a way to much and I supcect they could made the fuo to shift color faster as every one nows heat is the enemy of fluo and end cap came very hot mine stay cool at all time

By the rectangular socket i assume you mean the regular tombstone connections that come standard in shop fixtures?
If so i have been using the same ones with overdriven NO bulbs for about a year now.

Just be careful when you screw them into anything, they are really brittle.

I've got 6 ice cap end caps if you are still interested. Make me an offer for at least 2 of them :)
Anything to trade?
