It's happened again. I trek over to EM and they're not open. This time on Sunday at 2pm. I'm getting kinda tired of wasting my time like this.

Yeah! This is BS. I was there at 1:30pm and waited 30 minutes before giving up and going home. The least they could do is leave a message on their answering machine to let customers know they'd be opening late or not at all.

Yes, but they don't seem to be keeping to that either.

I checked the website for hours, before the long weekend then came down and they had a note posted on there door stating they were closed for the long weekend. Was not impressed.

Then I emailled my frustrations and have not received a response. Not even a basic sorry.

Summer is always very slow for retailers... not an excuse but maybe they left early, or an emergency came up.

I can understand that they'd want to close early or something, but this is the second time in 2 weeks. Not an isolated incedent anymore.

My girlfriend and I made the 1 hour trek today as well. I almost lost it. I'm pretty sure they lost my business. Same with BA's in Oakville actually. I bought a Red Lobo Brain and an Acro frag there on friday totalling $118 and got home from Toronto this morning only to find both of them dead with everything else in my tank looking fine. They won't do any sort of refund for me either, not even like 50%. Another lost customer. 2 stores in one day.... that must be a record:angry:

Not to defend BA but corals are pretty delicate creatures.....doesn't take much to stress them to death. (heat, moving, lighting etc). How were their condition when you purchase them? I have numerous scenarios similar to yours and by no means I am a newbie at the end of the day I count it as SOL.

I almost stop by EM today cause I was in the hood...glad I didn't. I think things are kind of slow at the store but at the end of the day they should post here that the store might now be opened.

BTW EM: When will you guys be getting another shipment?

I would, but they don't answer and thier voice mail is full.

Though I agree, half price sales and stuff is silly. I'd just like them to pick business hours and stick to them.

Luigi,

You're right about the half price stuff...

I'm sure many people here are more frustrated about the store not being open. It's like driving to your grocery store and finding that it's closed even though it's supposed to be open.

And you're absolutely right that it could be an emergency or something. But sometimes a quick note on the door would definitely help in any way.

Hi Todd....
you didnt mention this before...
just for this reason that the voice mail is full .....there is something that is not right...
they are not there to delete them...or listen to the messages...

Hi guy's I only said 1/2 price as a joke.Sorry if it confused some.Good thing I didn't say "completly free".
On a serious note,it's fair to exspect a business to repect it's own hours.

I know it's not a grocery store...

What I mean is that there should be no need to call every single time especially if their store hours are posted...

Stores should be open during store hours.

I think EM is a good store and several of my corals are from their store.

I think this thread could only help them to understand what their customers want or exspect. Many of business has gone under with the owner not knowing why he/she lost the business.
It's up to them to make sure the customers are happy.Like the old quote"The customer is always right".

I emailed them on July 31 with my frustation of their closure over the long weekend without posting their hours on the web. No response to date. I only posted here when I realized I wasn't the only one with this experience.

My biggest complaint is that if a company has posted store hours then they should follow them. An iscolated case (emergency) in a small company can be overlooked but not on multiple days. In my position at work if I left when it was slow or I was tired or anything else without it being an emerg I wouldn't need to come back to work.

I do hope everthing is okay with the guys at the store but....

I think Steve hit the nail on the head. I'm not calling ahead every time I go to visit a store during it's posted hours. If I have to do that, I'm just going to shop elsewhere.

Which is why I'm trekking out to BA's in Mississauga this afternoon. I *know* they'll be open.

You're right...noone is bashing EM here!!!

It's just feedback regarding what's happening...sometimes it's tough for the owner to know what's going on.

Indeed I was the other one posted on their forum 2 weeks ago and so far there hasn't been any reply.

Now I'm just curious.... has ANYONE been to EM and found it open for the last 2 weeks or so at all? If not, are they just out of town, out of the country for some personal reason perhaps?

Yeah, I was there 2 weeks ago today, and while Archie was a little late, they were open. I don't think, however, they were open at all on the weekend we were talking about in that other post.

Picked up 3 bags of reef sand at EM on Wednesday of last week. Found them closed over the long weekend and the Tuesday following. Thoughtr they must have been on extended holiday. Liked the service and advice there.

Hope they are okay.

Wow this thread got hot very fast! I haven't been there yet, but planned on stopping in next time I'm up that way from Windsor. But looking in at all this my thoughts are if you hours say you going to be open you should be open. I see it as very unperfectoinal for any store selling anything to have hours posted and then for them not to adhere to them. Thats just MO. If something comes up thats different but this seems to be more. I also think if you believe in the store, like it enough that thats where you want to do your shopping, then you should tell the person face to face hey i have this problem with your store! That way you will address the problem from the source! That be the best way to deal with the issues because i think that writing messages about them on the forums here probably wont make any difference!

Wow If everyone can think for a quick sec before jumping on the keyboard and typing away their frustrations we might find an asnwer or explanation, I spoke to Archie few hours ago and the store is open and running without any problems, Ryan suppose to open the shop yesterday and he had a family emergency that's why he never made it to open the shop, I'm sure when he's back he'll have a good explanation.

Please don't jump into conclusion and bash any retailers unless you know or have a perfect reason for it, In my book family & health comes first then business, I for one leave work on several occasions to take my kids/family to doctor/hospital or whenever there is an emergency, work is not #1 priority in life so deal with.
Or if you're so boared and need to create a subject so members can read maybe you should tell about the good experiance you had with EM or the advise you took prior to this one day closure incident.

Every time someone goes to the store and it is closed it seems Ryan has had a family emergency - and it seems to happen alot, we should feel this guy. However, at the same time I am confident the fate of the emergency would not have been altered by in the 30 seconds it would have taken to post "family emergency - re-opening ???day" on the door.

They have always been there when I have dropped in, but I do not go there that often b/c of logistics.

220G, with due all respect to your comment I feel the same way about posting a quick note informing customers with the absence reasons but unfortunatly Ryan never made it to the store to post a note.

Well said.

I hope things are well with Ryan. I think DJTODD owes Landy some donuts.

Snicker. Ryan owes me some donuts!

Hey, I don't begrudge anyone for family emergencies, or even deciding they just plain don't want to be there. It would have taken 30 seconds to change the voice mail message saying that the store would be closed. I did actually call before I left, but figured that they'd possibly be too busy with customers to answer the phone. Heck, I've answered the phone for them there when they've been busy.

But let me restate that this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks it's happened. No explanation for the last time.

:bananas: Thats it Ryan. I'm stealing your Bananas. :bananas:

All I have to say is, is that my daughter has some health problems and when its time to go to the hospital, That is then #1 priority F*$# everything elce, ppl can wait for for the little peace of coral that will still be there tommorrow. When it comes to your kids or other family members that are in trouble they come befor all elce. I'm sure that leaving a note on the door in that situation would be the last thing on anyones mind.

Well,

There have been a few issues of the store not being open.. I know that i have had a few issues.. as well as the store empoyee of the day being late.. We all understand it happens.. but it seems to be happening alot more than it should be.. Now weather they are going to get lunch and forgetting to stick the sign in the door..or other issues.. Thats fine, but i think that the other empoyees of the store could drop in and atleast leave a note?

Ya, Archie and Louis are good guys, cut them some slack.

I'm sure they didnt close the store to frustrate their customers. They've worked hard to give good service and get a good reputation, so whatever is interferring with that is affecting them more than anyone. The first year of a new business is tough, they have wrinkles to iron out as have other retailers.
